Messin Around in Illustrator

I was working on a little project, and I wanted better artwork than the standard photoshop job for it. So I decided to remake some of the key elements of the game for this project, in Illustrator.

I was going for simplicity, which is why there are few details. I might fix the arms and shoes up a bit a little more detail, but that's all.

Any comments, complaints, etc?

(Oh, and the color scheme is fixed, so don't bother commenting on that. I have absolutely no say in changing it)

Yeah, it's funny, but that's what the original design was like >.>

I think it only adds to the humor though :D

The wings need definite work. Other than that, all I have to say is Mesh Gradients are your friends.

just where the wings connect to the back. They look like they're just hanging there... rather than continuing around the back and being attatched.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

I should have posted the reference pic. They do just hang there. :(

And yoshi, what exactly needs work?

Mesh tool may not be the perfect solution. Sometimes straight gradients look better.

Would this be one of those times? :/

I don't yet know how to work the mesh tool, but if it'll help improve it a great deal, I might bother to learn.

Personally I think it looks fine. Gradient mesh just gives you more controll over the way you want the gradient to go.

I think it'd make the wings look a lot better. It looks almost too uniform.

I've almost started using Mesh Gradients in place of Gradients because it looks so much better. Takes more work though.

The wings do look like they're just dangling, and they kind of look odd in the fact that they...don't look functional. Granted, it is a cartoon, but they should look some degree of functional.

Good drawing though, just so you know.
