Yes, I've actually worked on something that I showed here before. Not too much of an update, but better than nothing.

I'm working on a head for the last thing I posted. It's not actually attatched yet, just waiting until I get the shape how I want it. Sorry, no wireframes this time, but it doesn't have any smoothing, so that might make up for it a little. Anyway, on to the pics...

very interesting, it's good work.. are you poly modeling this? I've seen work like this done in zmodeler that looks stunning.

Well, this started as just a test of Soft Selection, actually. Started with a box that had a decent amount of length/width/height segments, moved the verts around, hit Subdivide, then collapsed back to Editable Mesh. I've been repeating those last three steps every time I pull verts far enough to subdivide at about a size of 2-3.

(Did I mention I'm using Max? Probably in the other thread.)

I dunno what that thing is, but I would piss myself if I ever met it in a dark cave.

I'm surprised no one has used the name Lord Awesome on you yet. Nice job Lord Awesome.

Heh... thanks guys.

Does anyone have any problems with the design? After starting the head, I've been having a problem with those front legs (not the arms coming straight up off the back). They seem really weak-looking to me. I might go for something more like the back legs - more bulky, with toes/claws instead of points. Then again, I could just set it up to use the giant arms on the back to help with walking... would be an interesting animation, I think. I'll toss some test bones into the arms later to check it out and post pics.

One last thing, just because I'm curious: What level would you guys say my work is - like, beginner/intermediate/portfolio-worthy/professional?

you should give it front legs of like a bulldog.

That's pretty sexcellent. :)

The front legs defenitely need to go, they don't really fit the creature. The tail might need some overhaul as well, I think it would look better if either longer and/or thicker.

If it were my creature I'd probably give it large front legs, so that its torso will end up standing more diagonal in stead of horizontal as it is now. I'd probably also make the head (which looks awesome) bigger to make it more menacing.

It's kinda a weak design. It's too flat, and the legs are too blobby and segmented, they don't look like they could support it. The head is nice, but the rest looks like you busted out some lumpy shapes and tried to make it into a creature, instead of envisioning a creature and then accenting it with lumpy shapes. You know what I mean? The detail is nice, but it doesn't have the overall effect you might wanna try for next time around.

That said, it is good, and I like the idea. Keep it up!

Enlarge the head and put some sweet spines on it, similar to the front part of the torso, make the legs matching, similar to the back legs.

What are you using this for? Your method sounds VERY messy to me. If you're just going to use it for a still or something, it'll be fine. But if you ever want it in-game or plan on animating it, I doubt the end mesh will be very useful for that. If I saw a wireframe I could offer more pointers...

Make the front legs more like those of a praying mantis.

Keep the legs as they are. It improves the overall "What the hell is it?!" factor... but removing the head would achieve the same.

Murc - Like I said before, it started as just a test of Soft Selection. I'm gonna try to simplify it down for game use, but it's really more of a learning experience.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Getting some really good input here. And Pedro, I think you hit the nail on the head - if someone saw this in a game and went "OMG WHAT IS THAT THING?!?!?! AAAAHHHH!!!!" (or something similar :P), then I think I'd call it a successful design.

Slug, I like your idea too. That may be what I do to keep the idea of those legs but give them more mass.

I think I will enlarge the head slightly, and make the neck shorter. And of course it'll have more spines/spikes/whatever, just need to decide how I want to handle that.
