This will be a medium-sized deathmatch level featuring the rail detonator and set, appropriately, in a rail yard. Don't worry, the trains and better textures will be added later.

i suggest using new textures (16 bit) and tile the textures less

oh and use lighting

Could be good.
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

I think this map looks to focus on gameplay rather than aesthetics, but lighting and good use of textures ought to be given. Actually, that looks like a good KWP level, with the crazy weapons and such

I agree with Ruth. Plus breaking up those boring walls would be nice, too. You should never do all of your cleaving vertically.

And F-Body, the best maps focus on all aspects of editing... not just gameplay or asthetics or etc... settling on just one vital element is the same as settling on "good enough". Does an editor wanna be among the best? Or does he just wanna be good enough? It is, of course his choice,....but I, for one, have less respect for the latter.

Well, what I was trying to say is that not every author can affod to make levels pretty like your Mobius Grith or Spirals Haven simply because maybe they don't have time or experience. I was encouraging CarpKing here by saying that you can still have a good, fun level without being the best of all levels. Why do you think JHS and other levels are rated so high?

Besides, he says he's going to add trains :cool:

Seconded. Some of those maps have horrible flow, and dead-end often. That's a big no-no last time I checked.

This looks like it could be good, but yeah, change the textures and throw in some lighting.

The control tower is now accessible, though only through the side at this point.

First try at a new texture:

I think the rust stains are a little overpowering, and maybe a little pinkish. Suggestions?

It sometimes amazes me how few people can read.

He said he intended to change the textures later. So what the first thing people yammer about: textures.

As for lighting, many wait till the end to add that, so I don't consider it a big deal, considering this level looks to be a decent ways from being finished.

As for what's done, interesting use of gothic arches, though you could probably enhance those with an appropriately made arch 3do to give a 3d feel to the arches. For a rail yard, it feels awfully enclosed, there's a lack in open space. A lot of the architecture you've put in doesn't seem to have any definite purpose or point. For the tower, if you're going to have X supports, you should frame them top and bottom, and make the support pillars smaller (those pillars are large enough that they should be able to support that structure on their own). The overhangs in the tower look nice, but they should be scaled back a bit. They give an overexaggerated look to the tower.

The level is boxy. For what you've described, it seems plain, clean, barren. Throw in some debris, pieces of thing around the place, crooked walls, something to liven it up, give it detail.

As for textures I'll try sending some your way to help you out.

That's where I'm a little stumped right now. What kind of things & structures should a rail yard contain? I've got a control tower, and a warehouse-type area. I plan to add trains and some cargo. What other types of buildings would make sense? Any help would be appreciated.

For starters, glass can not support the top of that tower.

And lightsabers are not real. Welcome to Star Wars :p

Carp, first of all, your name always reminds me of CarpetKing (some local carpet cleaners)

Second of all, looks like it could be a really good map for fast gameplay.

Yea, that tower should have consoles with clever traps, but not too many
