Hey guys, it's been a long time since I've had something to showcase. I've been working on this JK map and I thought you might want to see what I've been up to.
After seeing what the #jkhub guys did on their JK Starfighter thing, I decided to develop a star-fighting mod of my own. I think you'll be satisfied with the result, as I am thus far.
Of course, every mod needs a map:
Behold! The yellow team hanger of my new map, "Massassi: Clan Wars!". It was inspired by my hate of clans and my desire to see them blow each other into the Force.
Please excuse the textures. Every texture artist I asked for permission to use their textures in an 8-year old game engine turned me down. Even the public domain texture artists pulled their textures off the internet just to keep me from using them. Jerks.
The hole at the bottom of the screen is the repair bay. The one on the right is space.
Here's the ship selection. You use that console to switch through all the ships possible to pilot. Then you activate the ship to fly it.
The doors in the back lead to the pilots' lounge. Still working on it, so no piccies of it yet.
Interior of the control room. These control panels can be used to trigger your base's defenses, including automated turrets. You can also send TIE Bombers on a auto-piloted bombing run to the other base, or use a camera panel to check in on all your teammates.
I think I've used too many polies on those struts, I'll try and get it down in count before the final release.
The aforementioned bombers. You can only use them once per map, so decide well. They don't respawn so you have to restart the map to use them... however I'm going to prevent map restarting being used to spam the TIE Bombers by making endlevel go straight to the credits, which, as you know, messes up JK's network protocols but I think we'll all adjust.
You can see an elevator on the left takes you up to the control room or down to the repair bays and other areas of the base that I'm still deciding on. I'm fairly positive I'll be including a harem, they're all the rage.
Traffic might be an issue with such a small elevator but I figure not more than 2 people will be playing this map at any one time anyways. Total.
Lemme talk about my mod for a little. The most important feature I've implemented, and the one I've spent the most time on, is the currency system. I like to think it's the most complex, intricate, nuanced, and convulted currency system in a video game to date.
Each player starts with US$1000. I've decided to do away with Star Wars "credits" and use an international standard of money people from all countries will understand and appreciate.
You have to buy ships to fight, and the cheapest ship will start at US$750. No money can be made inside the base (other than in the harem, of course), and users can't give money to each other. So this is a very good incentive to do good... if you spawn without enough money to buy a ship, you can always rejoin to get US$1000 back.
You make US$1 with every kill. There will be random asteroids and UFOs (got the idea from a great game I recently played for the first time, called "Meteors" or "Asteroids" or something, you guys oughta play it, great fun!) that you can shoot down, for US$1,000,000 and US$5, respectively.
Anyways I think this map will be a big hit among the two JK clanning communities left. I know you can't wait!
A beta of the map will be forthcoming. The mod beta isn't in any playable state yet so the map won't be entirely functional, but it'll still be good for RPing! I know you guys love RPing maps.
