In Memory

I'd like to make a toast
To the memory of a thought
To the thought that we forgot
To a thought that we must not
Forget to remember...
I'd like to make a toast
To remember what we ought
To forget what we forgot
And to think of many thoughts
In memory...
In memory
Of all the thoughts you've lost
In memory
Of all the lines you've crossed
In memory
Of all the days that slipped away
Of all the tolls you'll never pay
A memory of complexity
A potpourri of fallacy
Yet I still call erroneous
For that is not of me...
On the contrary
I'm a fountain of truth
A mountian of accuracy
A sea of actuality
A sky of authenticity
But enough about me
Enough of my bombastry
Tonight we speak of memory...
So please...
Before we slosh our chablis
Allow me to conclude my eulogy...
In memory
Of all the corners you've turned
In memory
Of all the lessons you've learned
In memory
Of all the days you've seen turn night
Of all the wrongs that you've made right
I make a toast

Don't forget to buy a toaster then.

Heh, sorry. Actually it's pretty good. Hmm. And I had to look up what chablis is.

Thanks much. I keep reading over the poem seeing if there is anything I'd change, but I can't think of anything. This is one of the only things I've written that I feel totally happy with it.

(BUMP as well)

I don't understand it. Seems like 70% of it is unnecessary blah. But yeah, I'm a foreigner, so I probably don't get the deeper meaning or something.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Shhh, SAJN gets mad when people realize his poems don't mean anything >.>

Just kidding. I hope. I've always valued insight and clarity over avant-garde artistry, so my advice would be to work on getting your message across, SAJN. :\

Also: endless repetition might work if you're an Armenian hard rock band, but in this case it's kind of annoying. Nice vocabulary though!

Ouch. That's one thing that still irks me. People that try and compare my work to the work of System of a Down. (Even if your comment was in jest, it reminded me of other people) I've never tried to copy anyone elses work. When I write something, I write exactly what I'm thinking at the time. I don't stop writing until I run out of ideas, but I don't ponder and try to think of ways to morph my work into something someone else did. As for the repetition and meaning. I'll explain it simply, and if you would like a further in-depth explination, just ask. For now a simple one, as I just got out of work.

The speaker is about to make a toast.

He starts to make his toast.

The speaker gets off track.

The speaker realizes he is dribbling on and apologizes. He gets back on track. This is also the explination for why the speaker used such large words.

bombastry

\Bom"bast*ry\, n. Swelling words without much meaning; bombastic language; fustian.

He finishes his toast.

So the repetition is in there for a reason. It isn't there to make it seem AWESOMETOTHEMAXLOL. The toast itself is only those two parts, but the speaker gets off track in the process of speaking. Which is also the purpose for the vocabulary and artistry. The speaker giving the toast is a very proper person.
