No need for an introduction

well, I feel there is. lol Anyways, heres the non-JK-formatted (which btw, anyone know offhand what teh size is?), soundless version of the introduction that I'll be doing for all of my mods.

Enjoy.

Also, the full JK Pistol Mod intro (same as posted below)

If someone has some flyby sounds handy, I'd really appriciate it and could make it worth your while (ish :p).

But yea, I don't want to hear that it has no sound or I will be really :mad: and I'll :banned: your future comments from my memory. ;) :p

So whatcha think?

So is that weird bouncing in the beginning just from the rumbling of the ship passing by? It looks kind of strange.

Clever with the no sounds, though. It pisses me off whenever I head sound in space in sci-fi movies and stuff.

If it was in space, the camera wouldn't shake.
Wikissassi sucks.

quite good for a start

How was it all done?

Dont mind lack of sounds. When you do find some, keep it with simple SFX. Dont try to make a mini song.
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

Yes, I know sound does not travel in space because its a mechanical wave and requires a medium to pass through, and the same for the camera, but its not space (note lack of stars) its some psuedo-real world thingy that all introductions exist in.

Made in 3dsm with time, nuff said. :p ;)

Screw reality. Imagine how much it'd suck to look at, say, the Death Star battle without the sound effects.

Put some stars out there, and get rid of the lame spotlight.

Firefly/Serenity didn't have sound in space.

And it annoyed the crap out of me at first. Of course I got used to it quickly.

We all know its realism, but sci-fi space battles would be god damn annoying otherwise.

Amen.

But guys, read my post above, but incase you don't quite know what psuedo-real means, let me put it in more.....blunt terms:

ITS NOT TAKING PLACE IN SPACE

cause btw, Descent (the game) took place in mines, so I tried to emulate that to some extent, however, I don't want stars or I would've put them in.

As for the spotlight, it was suppose to be semi-symbolic (almost an irony). I took off the volume-light effect, but I didn't like it, however, I'll go towards public opinion on that one. ;)

Anyways, here is a conbination of the above video (rendered this time in a higher resolution), along with the Jedi Knight Pistol Mod introduction.

Its a biggie at 30.1 mb.

Still no sound.

Enjoy and whatcha think?

A. If it's supposed to be in a mine, put it in a mine. It needs SOMETHING in the background.
B. Do you REALLY need the _ in your name there?
C. The camera shake is still ugly.
D. Stop using a crappy-arse codec like Cinepak. Use Xvid or Divx3.11. Seriously, that 53MB avi could be reduced to like, 7MB.
E. Use a more standard framerate, like 23.98/24 or 30.
F. In the pistol mod stuff, I don't like how that text is moving. I don't know if its the codec or the way you are moving it, it just looks shimmery and it's annoying.
G. When the text stops moving, it just stops hard. Try slowing it to a stop, even if it happens quickly it'll look much better.
H. Jedi Knight Pistol words flash in and out randomly after they disappear. It's kinda weird.
I. "A Jedi Knight Mod" is kinda useless and redundant. The title of the mod is already "Jedi Knight Pistol Mod" I think we can kinda discern that it's a mod for Jedi Knight. :p

Its not suppose to truely be in a mine, not to mention the mine could be pitch black (:p) but the psuedo-real world that introductions exists in, and its ony suppose to look like a mine to some extent. No background brings the Pyro GX and the text more into the focus of the viewer.
However, I'm not one who usually makes avi files, but I think the more compressed it is, the lower quality it becomes, but I dunno exactly. Also, me don't gots those codec's. Framerate is also due to lack of good avi skills (for now :p).
The movement of the text has alil problems because afterwords I increased the length of the clip as a whole, and I didn't think it came off as good as it could, but now I'll take the extra work to make it longer in the renderer.
The flashing in and out thing was suppose to be cool, but the mixer didn't like it the best, but I'll get rid of it.
"A Jedi Knight Mod" was a space filler, cause I dunno what else to put there, if you think of something, lemme know. :p ;)

And, YES, the _ is needed in my name because my name is Descent_pilot, you don't get me w/o the _. :mad:

Serenity had some sounds during the big space battle scene...and when the piece of the ship came off... and stuff.

If you're talking about that big battle at the end, that wasn't in space, it was in the planet's atmosphere :p

And the piece of the ship coming off made sound because it reverberated INSIDE the ship. :D

Anyway, Descent, seriously look into getting xvid codecs, and use those. They'll compress insanely better, and the quality will actually be higher than that crappy-arse cinepak. Cinepak is literally one of the oldest codecs around (it was around when Windows 3.11 was popular).

Also, I'm tellin' ya, it looks bad without something in the background. Even if its pitch black in a mine, or whatever, there should be some subtle hint of SOMETHING back there. Right now it looks like a ship flying around in front of black matboard :p

Far too long, in my opinion.

I would suggest having just one fly-by of the Descent ship. That whole section for the "Descent_Pilot Productions" logo should be only a couple of seconds long at the most. Without a background you would do well to have the camera stationary, since there's no reference point for the viewer when you move/pan it.

The text flashing back up after the fade-out is kinda weird - I couldn't tell if that was meant to happen. When is this supposed to play? Is it a replacement of the opening video before the main menu? If so, then you can get away with the length of this intro, if you make it more interesting. I was pretty bored by the whole thing. What I would do is make MotS-cutscene-style shots of some action sequences and splice them together in that classic credits style - the sort where you get very short action sequences that play and then freeze or go slo-mo while a credit pops up, and then moves on to the next little action shot.

Isn't that when JK was popular? :rolleyes:

I agree maybe something should be behind the ship. Especially since the ship is even almost untextured. It all looks very incomplete. Even if it's some nebulous grey forms to simulate the bumps of a ...shaft. :p I don't think any of us would have figured that the cutscene is taking place in the "pseudo-real world of the intro." An artist should never have to argue with his audience as to why things in his project are the way they are; it should be clearer.

(then again, I don't believe there were stars or anything in the LucasArts intro to XWA)

BLASPHEMY!

JK uses DirectX code, so it is certainly not runnable on Windows 3.11.

No, no, I distinctly remember that, in the era of Win 98, people would hearken back to the days of 3.11 and talk about it occasionally, giving it "popular" status. Hence, I am still right. :em321:

Ahh I remember when Windows 95 came out... people were saying "Win32" and I thought they meant Windows 3.2 had come out...

I saw the pic before I read the bottom part of your post. Seeing the Windows XP icons for My Computer and the Recycling Bin really scared me. :S
