I haven't seen Aliens, but I like the cartoony (almost cel shaded?) textures.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Very cel shaded. The grenade launcher part needs more vents.

I don't. Needs more grit and less yellow.

However, your modelling has greatly improved so I'm sure you'll figure out textures eventually.

Cool model.
You should get PhotoShop :)
It would be cool with a brushed metal for the front part.
Maybe add some scratches and make it look like the paint have been worn off.

Needs more green, I think. I always liked this rifle, it looks futuristic and realistic at the same time.

I'm going with a slightly different paint color, standard marine strange.

Update on textures.

The model looks flat and cartoony.
Wikissassi sucks.

Absolutely perfect... if you wanna do an Anime Aliens mod.

MOVIE SHOT

The problem wasn't the lack of dents and dings... it was solid over-saturated colors, poor CGI looking shading, and overall lack of "dirt". Even a nicely maintained weapon would have color inconsistancies and signs of wear. You should also study the differences between reflections on real plastic and gun-metal surfaces.

You're making a JK TC?

You have to be kidding :p

For the love of god, get rid of those stupid shadows and reflections in the render. It doesn't make the model look any better.

Not to mention that it disguises the actual quality of the model. It cannot be accurately criticized in its current state.

For the love of God, think (novel concept nuh? :P), I'm not showcasing the model itself, I've done that already. I'm showcasing my attempt at texturing, because its not the model itself thats important, its the final look when its combined with the textures that is. :psyduck:

It doesn't make the textures look any better either. Gee, it's almost as if it serves no purpose at all.

Here's a pro tip: If you want to show us the textured model, then show us the textured model. Rendering it with reflections and shadows is completely pointless.

Here's a novel concept back at you DP :P ... Have you ever stopped to (For the love of God) think that maybe it's the textures that we don't care for? I mean, haven't you even bothered to read anything we've all said? Most of us, including myself, like the model. However the poor rendering and amateur texturing that make the "final look" appear less than medicore.

Look, DP, our critiques are meant to help you improve your skills, not put you down. As an artist, you'll have to maintain a certain level of humility and an open mind if you ever wish to sharpen your skills. For people like us, pride only serves to stunt the growth of improvement.

I agree with everything that's been said.

Love the model

But I don't care for the textures.

The only thing I don't like about your weapons is there seems to be random scratches that go random in every direction. It looks like a 3 year old went at it with a butter knife and scratched it up. You have to be logical when making wear and tear on your guns. For example, the clip would have marks on it from sliding in and out of the gun, but only up and down marks most likely. The bottom of the clip would most likely not have scratches on it because it does no rub against anything. The bolt would have marks because it rubs against the inside of the gun over and over. The slide on the front (which I am guessing is for the grenade) would leave marks on the gun where it slides because it would be used a lot.

Also, make the cartridges wider, the bullets don't look like they're 10mm wide (judging by the barrel width)

Other than that it looks cool :psyduck:

The cartridges SHOULD be caseless, but they don't appear to be in the textures.

You do realize that I know that my texturing is horrible and you guys have liked my models and repeatedly have told me to texture them. And what I hate more than anything is a negative review with no point other than to bash something rudely, at least be direct and still respectful about it (see Dark_Knights post). Maybe you haven't been following my work, fine, but I'm trying to improve, so tell me what I need to improve and I'm not going to say anything, in nice, polite format. Words such as "stupid," and sarcasm get you no where, earn my scorn, and I'm trying to be nice, politeful, and tactful, but you guys make is so damm difficult sometimes. *sigh*

FantomJedi, be lucky I'm not an admin, I've got nothing more to say to you.

Space_Bandit, first off, I was trying more for chipped plastic, trying to do something new, moving away from teh base scratches, but do you think I should redo them with actual scratches?

Zagibu, caseless means the case is used up in the actual firing (see the G11 caseless) I just made it that way so I wouldn't have to draw new textures. :ninja:

And you're doing this all by yourself? :P

Anyway, the model looks like it's suffering from stencil syndrome. The method of modelling a gun over/from a side view and then rounding the barrels and handle doesn't actually work--in fact it gives you a model that's the same width all the way through. I used to model that way, and it didn't work any better for me. SO! You should use a side view for scale reference, but you need lots of pictures to work from. Know what I mean?

Yes, I have been keeping up on all of your projects. I've taken a keen interest in all of them. Truth be known, I wouldn't have posted at all, otherwise. I always thought you have some serious potential.

Dark__Knight's post says as simply as possible, "I love the model, but I don't care for the textures". Is that all you want from us when you post something here? If it were my model, I'd prefer to know why you don't like the texture. A vague critique doesn't help at all.

If you read my initial post, it starts off with a jestfull remark, followed by my suggestions on how you might be able to improve it. There was no bashing. You know it wasn't meant to be offensive. It doesn't make my day to be rude to DP... and if you believe otherwise, then maybe it's just you can't handle negative criticism.

Judging by the way you handled FantomJedi's good advice, I'm willing to bet this is the case. His gripe wasn't aimed at your skill, your model, or your character... It was aimed only the silly reflections on that surface under the gun in the render.

You don't have to worry about anything else from me tho. I can tell my views are worthless to you, and that's fine. We all have a different point of view. I'll do my best to keep off your threads from now on. Good luck, bud.

The point is that we can't accurately critique your textures with all the extra effects you applied to the render. It's hard to tell where the actual model/skin ends and where the rendering effects begin, which is, you know, why people asked you to remove said effects in the first place.

If you can't take criticism without getting defensive and taking it personally, then you shouldn't publically showcase your work.
Moo.

I didn't mean to be rude or vague with my post, I'm sorry it came out that way. I saw that other people had already given some texture sugguestions, and by me saying I agreed with everyone, I meant that I agreed with their sugguestions as well. Sorry about coming off blunt and non-constructive.

I wasn't taking a dig at your work. There was nothing personal there, so sorry if you thought I was just being a jerk.

About the model/textures:
I like the model, and heck, I even like the textures so far. Cel shaded stuff wins big points from me. However, I would say for an Aliens TC, it doesn't really jive. Although it's sci-fi horror, there needs to be a good element of realism, else it kind of fails. As for your texturing abilities, you've made a good start. If you're aiming for cel shaded, you've totally hit the mark. But you do need a bit more practice to get a more realistic look.

But please, I'd just like to see a render without shadows and reflections obscuring things. I can barely tell where most of the edges are on that thing.

I would like to take a moment to apologize if I was comming off as brash or arrogant. I've had about 3 hours of sleep over the past 80 hours now, been preparing and actually graduating high school (w00t lol), and dealing with real life problems (aka girlfriend pmsing). Halucid, I have great respect for your comments, but FathomJedi's struck a nerve with me, and above caused/doesn't help my own angitation. Anyways, I'm sorry everyone, I do respect you.
