Here's the final Unity Starship! The United Karlot Yards Assault Cruiser!

These vessels were desgned and the first ones built in secret about a year prior to the collapse of the Republic and the great Karlot Uprising. These vessels surprised and shocked the crumbled remains of the Republic when they first appeared, numbering a dozen, over the Human capital of Condensten. The at-this-point inept Republic military surrendered without a single shot being fired.

The vessel enjoys frontline duty as the head of primary task forces. Its heavy armament and starfighter compliment allow it to also work independently of other vessels, though it often relies on Cutters to aid in assaults against Goliaths and Magnetizers by weakening their hulls and damaging control stations near the outer hulls. The Assault Cruiser's hull is covered in places with spines, some tipped with explosives triigered either by contact or by proximity. Several larger lances protect sensitive areas such as the bridge from close range assaults by assault craft. Some of the blisters on its surface are also armed with explosives and shrapnel.

The hangar bay located midway down the dorsal ridge is used primarily for the launching of fighters and bombers. The Cruiser can carry a full wing of fighters, utilizing a lift to bring craft from inside the ship to the hangar for launching. The large ventral docking bay can dock with vessels up to the size of a Cutter and is primarily used for docking with transports, freighters and the launching of ground forces and assault craft.

He mentioned somewhere that he made them in JED...I guess that makes them even more awesome.
They are for this X-Wing Alliance game, right? Ever thought of making a Homeworld mod? I think a strategy game would gain more from all these capital ships than a space sim.

zag is thinking of two other people, lol.

It was some other guy who made that neat-o Jed model, and then whatsisname is making an original universe complete with models for a XvA mod.

No, actually, it is me that does the JED models. This was made in JED alright. I then use the 3do converter to put it in obj format and render in C4D. If anyone really wants I could post the JED wireframes.

As for facecount- I'd be afraid to actually know :). Probably too high for XWA, though I'd love to be able to put them in. I haven't bothered to check, mostly because these models won't be seeing themselves in a game anytime soon. Right now it's mainly something to do - get my concept art for Bloodwing into a 3d form so I can really get their configuration in my mind for when I'm writing. Also, I am enlist a friend of mine to do the cover art and possibly some more illustrations for the book. ...Despite only being about a 3rd of the way through it, and needing to go and do a revision afterward. I've been writing it on and off for who knows how long, and by the time I get to the end I'm going to need to tidy it up a bit.

Eventually, though, I WOULD like to put this into some sort of space combat sim and/or a RTS. But between the busy life of a music major and finishing the book and LIFE ITSELF, that seems liek a more distant prospect. When I get aroudn to it, though, if Massassi is still alive, be sure you guys will be the first beta testers. :)

Edit: here's some shots of all the ships together in a fleet. The fighters are there too, but too small to really make out clearly in most shots. I'm going to post a coupel here, the rest you can view at http://massassi.net/ec/view.php3?user_id=573&type=i&DateToView=06/18/2006

Also, a correction on the size of the ventral docking bay. It can dock with a ship considerably bigger than a Cutter. It can fit at least a Gunship inside.

Looks more like one ship blown in half.

-In that shot, at least.

Okay, how long did it take you to make that thing......? Cause you either have magic powers, or something..... And tell me when you publish your book, I'll buy it just for the pictures. ;)

It does kind of looke like one broken ship, doesn't it? No, it's just the angle of the shot. The battleship is actually closer to the camera than the cruiser. Those shots are all the same scene taken from different angles.

Build tiem for this model: 2 days. I spend at least 6 hours a day, so 12 hours? Probably a bit more than that. The fact that it's mostly ymetrical makes things easy - build half the ship, then flip along Y axis, merge. I also lay a grid over my sketches to make getting the shape and proportions I want quick and easy. Plus I'm just good at it ;).

As for the book - I have no idea how long it's going to be until then. I've got about 120 pages in word I think (size 10 - eeek) but still have a long way yet to go. A long novel, for certain. But I did some more work on it today, and will probably continue to for most of the week. I'm taking a little break from the models. I work in phases, so it's good that there are so many facets to this project. Drawings-->Models-->writing-->Drawings--> etc...
Good to know I've got one buyer at least :)
