Here are some shots of my Great Wall of China level.

[http://www.jkhub.net/project/screens/project-262-9EuwbVvVQC.jpg]

It seems to me this community is starving for good tree models so I decided to make one of my own. I'll put the tree on the hub under the resources after I have it perfected.

Catapults are a go! I still need to get that cog synched Zagibu. It isn't crucial to what I'm doing now though so I'll put it off till I need to.

Looks pretty neat!

I would say a better texture is needed for that tree. And are you sure trebuchets were really used in ancient Chinese warfare?

It's a catapult, not a trebuchet. A trebuchet hinges at the top of the tower, not the bottom.

I based my catapult off the bottom one.

Supposedly the mongolians used this
type of weapon but I got it off some
internet site so I don't know if it is a
reliable source or not.

[edit]
I was actually thinking of changing that
tree texture anyway. I might scale the
tree too since it is so big.

yeah the trunk texture is nasty.

Other than that, it looks quite good.

Cool but you need:
--different skybox, the current one in pic 2 looks funny (blue color there looks good though)
--hidden chambers/trap doors/tunnels or something else with a twist
--SYNCHED AI! :)

is there any chance you could send me the tree model as is? I have an idea I want to try out but I don't really want to spend ages making a tree trunk and branch model to test it (all I really need is a model with branches but no leaves).

He's...typing properly! It's a miracle!

EDIT: Nevermind. Neat models. :P

I'm sick of everyone talking about the way I type anywhere I post. :mad: Who really cares? I started this again because some people liked how I typed before. I am fed up with it. Once again I will conform to the communists who can't stand to see consolidated type. I don't know why it's such a big deal. I feel I can't even post on other peoples' threads because it detracts from their thread. For these reasons I will type like all you "normal" people because it isn't worth everyone complaining. Though some people will complain that I stop. :(

jedi I, I told you I like how you type like that. If you like it too, and want to keep your originality, then stay with it. If a few people don't like it, then who cares? Anyways, as far as your level goes, it's looking awesome. The tree is a very good model in my opinion, but the texture of the bark is lacking. Other than that, I really like where this is going, keep it up!

Oh yeah, and I thought of an idea for your wall. Maybe you could make a few of those blocks on the wall be 3D and stick out a little so the player could jump up the wall and almost rock climb to the top, as another way to the other side? I think that would be a pretty neat idea to implement.

Yeah, you really have to ask yourself if you want to conform to standards set by people, who skip entire posts because frequent line breaks discomforts them. When I had a bald shaved head, a friend of mine said, he wouldn't do it, because there are some people with prejudice against baldheads (the term skinhead comes to mind). This was no problem for me, however, because I don't care about these people (and I was strong enough for when they are drunk and try to "enforce" their prejudice).

And Dark_Knight's idea is pretty good. Some kind of wear on the wall (cracks and shifted blocks) that allow you to climb up.

You're certainly welcome to express yourself however you see fit. But I can too, you know? I don't go TYPING IN PINK CAPITAL LETTERS all the time, or.with.periods.instead.of.spaces and then call people communists when they complain. :P Essentially, if you're going to make a choice to type that way you have to be willing to accept the consequences. :psyduck:

Also I might go with a different texture on the tree trunk. It looks kinda like cement.

Enough about the typing issue. I want to be a benefit to this community and not a deterrent so I will conform.

I am planning to change the texture on the tree trunk and I want to try this new prefab skybox thing with the 1024 x 1024 sized textures that are all split up.

I'm working on some conifer trees for the landscape so it isn't so bland too. I'll post back more when I get that finished. I'm aiming to have that done by Monday or Tuesday.

Dark Knight, I was going to try and get some ropes that you could climb on to get up the side of the wall. But that is a good Idea too. I might just go with it since it wouldn't have to depend on cogs.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Here's the zipped up 3do and key. Thanks Zagibu.

I don't know much about mapping in JK*, but I'd say this thing rocks. It looks a little dark though. Even outside.

*Or any mapping, for that matter.

those look pretty cool. Buuuut, that one tree is crooked. Trees don't grow crooked. They angle so they're aiming straight up.

I love the new trees! Great detail, and they fit the terrain beautifully. The "sun" is also a nice touch, but I think the skybox could do with being higher rez. This level looks really promising, jedi I, keep it up!

None of the trees are crooked. It must be the perspective.

Daft, I am using a skydome right now but I think I'll be switching to a skybox. We'll have to see. I agree though. The low resolution looks bad. I'll work on it and maybe get it to where it looks good.

hmm. I'm looking at the first screenshot from your recent post. The tree on the left side on the hill. Looks like it's sticking out at an angle. Guess it could be the viewing angle.

but btw, those trees look awesome.

Are you refering to framerate? If so the trees don't seem to really affect frame rate much at all on my machine, and it's nothing but a pile of dung compared to modern computers. If it runs smoothly on my 266mhz computer with an ATI Rage 128 pro video card it should run smoothly on pretty much any machine nowadays. (ATI is corrupt and the source of all my agony at the moment. Corrupt drivers!). I am crippled till I get a new computer or fixed drivers.

You're welcome to use these trees for your stargate levels if you'd like Ruthven.

well i'm trying to use about 50 visible trees, each 100 polies at max LOD, but only 10-20 will be visible at this detail.

The terrain is about 5000 polies, and the grass is an extra 2000 (but only 700 at visible LOD)

I'm using 1ghz computer with a crappy 32 meg card, but i still feel cheated out of framerate.

Also, do u know how i go about using small sectors with large terrain, so i can have sector lighting, with out clipping 3do's.

I know there may be tutorials but .... i ... cant read :psyduck:
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){

Well it sounds like you probably don't wan't to use my trees then since each one is close to 1400 polys alone. I still don't see a decline in frame rate though so I'm not getting worried yet. We'll see once I get fifty of these things going in my level. I want to add LODs but I'm not sure if I'm up to it.

The whole level is made of 3do's. I hate 3do architexture because it is too buggy and lighting is annoying, but its the only way to realisticly accomplish what I am doing.

I missed what you said about sector lighting Ruth. Will you explain a little more. I couldn't figure out if you were giving me tips, asking for advice or just stating that you had a problem with your terrain.
