Another school assignment and my first real model thingamajig in 3ds max. (I hadn't ever used a 3d modeling program before taking this class)

The assignment was to make a low poly street prop in a Monkey Island-esque style.
200-300 faces. a 256x256 texture. And a Level-of-detail-model with 50% of the origional amount of faces which uses the same texture. All properly smoothed with as few smoothing groups as possible. In 3dsmax

So this is what I made:

Normal Model:

Distant LOD-Model

I had some rough times learning 3ds max at first but eventually I started to like the modeling part. Not the texturing part though. Brrr... I had more fun texturing stuff in JED...

The difference in the 'fruit basket' part will probably make the low-hi transition too noticable. The stripes, however, look like the line up perfectly between the two LODs.
Wikissassi sucks.

Yeah it would have been better if the fruitbasket had a border in the LOD. But I really didn't have anymore texturespace to miss. Nor faces to add.

I love how it looks. Awesomely cartoony, it makes me want to play Monkey Island. Actually, I would think it must be harder making cartoony looking models than realistic ones?
