For like 4 months after Shred told me to stop taking credit for a project in which my models weren't even working. That's a long time to sit with your tail between your legs, so I decided to do something right for a change.

Introducing the Avenger Pulse Cannon, the finest energy-based rifle-mounted cannon available on the black market to date.

Name: Avenger.ms3d
Build Time: 10 hours
Polygons: 989 Triangles
Project/Game: Secret

This weapon is a 100% original piece, and took me a whole lot of time to actually get into. Modeling as proficiently as possible, as well as avoiding overlapping surfaces (The two issues Shred had with my models, before) is difficult, but doable. I hope to get into more advanced programs next year at school that will make modeling correctly a lot easier.

Yes, that's a gigantic blade on the bottom of the gun. Yes, that's a thumb hole.

The only thing I'm not so sure about is the stock-pad. It seems odd for the rest of the gun. It won't really be visable in game, so it doesn't matter that much, but I'd at least like to make it fit some. Maybe it's fine though, I'm not sure.

Wow, I dig the syle of it. It's sleak and kinda steampunk looking. I envision it being all gold shiny. My only suggestion would be to have a separate handle (between what assume is an extendable stock and the rest of the gun), so that it could easily be held and swung as a melee weapon.

I think you should reconsider the butt of the gun.. make something that follows the same lines. I think it will help with the overall look. Is the bottom of it a blade so you can slice people? Like the melee attack with the brute shot in halo2

Exactly like that.

What would you suggest for the stock?

Exactly what I was going for, actually. Scary.

Is it the kind of stock that extends out?

No. The weapon is supposed to be rifle length at the moment.

That's excellent Kirby! I love the blade, a nice touch. Are you thinking that primary fire will be some kind of energy shot, and secondary swings the blade? Something you could do to make the gun interesting is have secondary hold the blade in a vertical position, and make it instant death for anyone it touches, effectively allowing you to ram people (kind of like the Gothic Sword in UT GotY). On the downside, you won't be able to fire the gun and will be limited to a melee attack. Just ideas.

That's pretty much the plan, at the moment. A rapid fire energy shot for primary, and a very high damaging slash attack for secondary that allows you to basically kill what you run into.

The stock sucks and the blade is a little bulky, but other than that, it's pretty cool.

Now with longer body and NOT a folding stock!

I'll probably redo the stock now that others agree it needs to change. Updates coming.

That is the worst blade position ever. Someone is going to kneel down and cut their knee caps off.
Think while it's still legal.
2006-07-07, 5:07 PM #12
Stock is too wide to be comfortable, and appears heavy enough to throw off the balance of the gun. It needs a trigger, and the thumb hole needs more polies to match the rest of your curves unless you're going for the "There'll be a hand there anyway" approach.

The design is kinda cool I guess, but if it's rifle length and as heavy as it looks, the blade would be basically useless. Now that I look at it again, it'd look twice as cool if you just flipped the grip so that the front of the gun was the back and the back was the front.
2006-07-07, 5:09 PM #13
this was my suggestion for the stock but I used the old picture as a reference (before you lengthened it)

i like zan's idea/pic. kind of reminiscent of the styr aug in some ways

i might as well toss in my idea.. i think you should make a sheath around the blade and secondary fire should shoot the blade out like a switchblade while you hold the button down, effectively becoming a sort of bayonet. it would prevent you from cutting off your kneecaps too ;)

I'm quite sure that if you elevated your arm up 90 degrees (like people do sometimes when firing larger automatic weapons) and held the gun on it's side, then fired, the blade would almost certainly slice through your elbow if you weren't careful to avoid it. Seeing as the sharp pointy edge is directed right at the player when you shoot....I dunno, it just seems really dangerous to me.

Other than that, I absolutely love the design. I dunno about Z@ANARDI's idea though, I think it would make the gun look a little too conventional. I like the stubby barrel how it is; looks nice and futuristic. Perhaps remodel the lower half of that stock to something more rounded.

Hahah, I was thinking that, I just figured it was so obvious...

Make the blade a little less bulky and put it towards the front of the gun, like this.

This gun is intended to be fantasy, so despite the obvious flaw in design, I'm going to leave the gigantic blade. I want this secret project to be far more flashy and atmospheric, and less technical and perfected.

I'm working on a pretty little stock as we speak.

Nah, this one's better... it has a more modular look, make it appear less bulky, and more segmented, which is kinda neat... it looks lighter and more comfortable, but still tough/beefy... I think it's great :D.

It isn't just about being realistic, the big blade also just looks dumb.

Also, the new stock is WAY better than the old one. WAY. It looks modular and adjustable, hence, cool. The old one looks like some kind of toilet plumbing part.

And that stock looks painful with those big, sharp corners, least add some rounding to it. ;)

Are you making this for JK? Other wise I'd say use more poly's at least on the blade. The curve are extremely bad and pointy. Models have not used so few polygons in quite some time.

I agree. The new stock is excellent, make it a keeper. I will also mention that I was tempted to say what SAJN pointed out, but I decided against it since I knew what kirbs was going for. It's stylistic, it's futuristic, it's unrealistic. Sure, in real life, it would be suicide to mount a blade on the underpart of a gun, but in KirbyLand, anything is possible.... ;)

with the blade on the bottom it reminds me of the brute shot from halo 2, it had a giant blade on the bottom of it as well and you could use it as a weaker mini sword when your out of ammo.

Triggers are a waste of polygons. I know, I'm usually an ******* about polygons on handles, but triggers are only going to be overlapped by a finger anyway. In the end, I think triggers look worse than without.

Besides, I might put a little red dot for the trigger. That'd be fun.

The new one definitely looks a lot better, and the higher poly blade is also a good improvement. But I'm not sure I'm really digging the design in general. :/
2006-07-08, 11:00 PM #32
I only skimmed the thread, and I know you're not putting in a trigger, but I do want to know WHERE it's going? That just doesn't look good. This is exactly the reason guns have trigger guards. If the trigger is to be just in front of the thumb hole and at the top of the hand grip, that's very stupid. I'm sorry, but I think it is. Oh, and the thumb hole should be higher. Where it's at would require moving the thumb in an unnatural way, and might be uncomfortable for extended use.

For carrying, that'd be a *****. If it had a trigger guard, you wouldn't have to worry about your hand slipping onto the trigger. Hell, that's what trigger guards are FOR.

And, I know it's not changing, but I just don't like how it al looks like one big solid chunk of plastic with a metal barrel stuck in there.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Give the front grip more of an ergonomically acceptable bumpiness to match the pistol grip.

Model Name: Judge.ms3d
Polygons: 706 Triangles
Build Time: 2.5 Hours
Project: Anyone figure anything out, yet?

Built as a sidearm to the coveted APC, the JPP boasts a far hugher fire rate with a lower output charge to compensate for the recoil experienced with it's larger counterpart. The plus to this sidearm is its faster melee capabilities, making it formidable to even the Avenger itself.

lolol I know

You should round the blade to keep it with the style of the other weapon.

Now the pistol looks like an axe. Dun like it.

As for the whole "blade kneecap" issue, just figure that it would come with a blade guard when the blade wasn't in use.
