Desert map 3do work. (Need textures.)
2006-07-11, 2:08 PM #1
I experienced so much trouble with the 52 surface limit in the past that I started composing many large complex 3do's. Let me know what you think.

Unwanted comments/critiques: "The textures need work," "I don't like the textures," etc.

reminds me of a large dessert level that I was working on at one time...

Keep going with it. I hope you have better patience then I.

Looks like it has a lot of potential.

I think it'd also look pretty neat if you made the sand into water and used mountain-like textures with a dabble of grass here and there. Just a thought. :)

Looks nifty.

Yes, although they are not visible from this height. They appear to be tiny ants, though I assure you it is grass and cacti.

I would guess he meant 512, since afterwards he mentioned 3dos. Either that or he was meaning the 128 adjoin limit.

That's insane. Lighting would make that awesome.

it reminds me somewhat of some tribes maps; obviously the style you're going for is different, but i had a brief memory of blasting people with disc launchers. :gbk:

Yeah, I think it'd look way too awesome that way too! Now it's a bit monotonous.

well, what are your plans to do about the textures.. cause you don't want to hear they suck but you didn't tell us what your going to do

I can make my own textures, though I'm also happy if someone else can send me some appropriate ones.

As for the surface limit, I was referring to sectors. I used to cleave up maps a lot and lose architecture during testing. Blood_Asp taught me better.

he probably meant that he cleaved all the archi out of sectors causeing the adjoin limit.

well there is no adjoin limit anymore (if you have the patch) but you still gotta be careful of framerates

Yeah, I read about that and thought it was pretty cool. I had been gone since last August. MUCH fun reading up on the progress of JKR and Sith2 and whatnot.

Nice mood. But, although you are sick of hearing it, texturing generally needs work. I know how hard it is to find appropriate textures, it's why I gave up level editing.

I've made some updates. Sariss' model still sucks, but I put a new face on her. I like it a lot better. My mountain textures repeat a lot, but are of much higher quality. I tried the "fill it with water" thing, though I didn't like the result in terms of gameplay... I included the picture anyway.

Looks better with the water, but yeah, the rock texture is mind-numbing. I suppose the problem is that it's just too monotonous. Maybe if you add some patches of grass, little rocks of a different color sticking out of the main rock formation and add lighting to the level, the situation will improve.

Or here's another idea: if you don't like the game mechanics with the water, why not turn the water into ice? That'll give you an excuse to put snowy textures on the top parts of the higher rocks (mountains?), add falling snow, sound of howling wind, and general stuff like that. Although personally, I'd prefer the way it is now - but with more detail breaking the monotony. Again, maybe some vegetation would help. Or fog. Fog always works.

Or add a frickin' waterfall and some flowers and stuff.

Thanks for your input, though I assert that my map will remain waterless. If/After I release this, feel free to go and rip-off the 3do's and make your own waterfall/flowery/whatever level, I'm just looking for textures here.

Cool man, I wanted to start editing for a while now, just needed some sort of a push. So I'll definetly give it a try if you don't mind. Full credits go to you, of course.

Not really. Atleast the original wasn't stretched all over the place.
Wikissassi sucks.

the nose hangs too low, and the mouth is... just nasty. Rest of the Sariss face looks good.

And yeah, do something about that mountain texture. Maybe try *not* aligning the textures so perfectly. As long as you avoid any obvious stitching errors, it should look a bit less monotonous.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Those things could be off, yeah. What's funny about this to me, however, is that it's a photo-rape of a friend-model's face and the "camera" ghost angle is above her head.

So was this friend-model wacked with a spade?

If you indeed have a suggestion for improvement attached to your repeated vague critique, please share. It didn't make any more sense the second time around, sorry.
