Well I've been fiddling around with various tools and I made these nifty little (well, my first attempt was 12mb, so < 2mb for each of these two is little by comparison) gifs from the latest Stargate SG-1 episode. Whee :D

I figured out why they're a bit jerky... mplayer was dropping frames in order to keep the audio and video synced :psyduck:

Quality (and filesize) increased tenfold once I added the magic -noframedrop:

I'm gonna link them so as not to offend any 56kers (I posted these on another forum and they got all riled up, a mod even edited my post, for shame...).

I like how the Stargates can survive repeated thermonuclear blasts but shatter like porcelaine when a ship crashes a hundred meters away.

I think those shuttles have naquada (or however you write it) generators, thus making them quite explosive.

From what they said in the episode, the stargate did survive the explosion but the DHD didn't. But in that gif, it looks like the stargate blew up too... dunno.

I don't think it was firmly established until later in the series that Stargates are near-indestructible.

But it doesn't really matter in that episode (48 Hours) because they never end up completing a dial back there anyways.

Yeah, despite being made out of a metal which we know to be quite destructable, albeit strong and hard, but not THAT much.

Well, they did have to make nukes specifically for destroying gates. I think they're Mark V's, aka "gate busters"

I updated tealc.gif. 200kb smaller (1.9mb now) but the framerate is so much better. :D
