Alright, some of you might remember a forme design i had made, Detty and a bunch of others had helped on it. I sadly lost it so I made a new one but I'm having some rather wierd problems with validation.

The website (A Hero Story)

The Failed Validation

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Seemed to work last time I did it. :/

Okay so its late, but heres a quick crit:

The thin serif font is hard to read on that textured background. Id say just tone down the texture behind that text. Btw- ive heard its also a bad idea to use lorem ipsum for screen filler.

#2- The logo is kind of not as nice as the rest of the site. I dont know, but that H dropping so low bothers me. Oh! and that gate to the right side looks kind of place.

Overall it looks very nice though!

hmm you,re right about the logo. That h is supposed to be a sword but you actually loose the hilt guard because of the glow so not it looks welll... bad. Thank you for the heads up.

I was thinking that about the serif text being hard to read but the few people i asked told me they had no problems. Still I'll tone down on the texture as you suggested.

In the morning that is. I'm too tired right now :P

Your CSS is almost valid: Get rid of the equals mark in "left:=10px;" in .menu

And you cannot have <br /> within ordered lists. Make each individual block an ol, and you'll validate.

Oh, and for my opinion: I dislike the green, honestly. I also think that the logo you posted here looks much better, and would look even nicer if it were bigger than the current logo, as the current one is smaller than it needs to be. I'm thinking ALMOST touching the edge of the dark area.

In IE the <br />'s don't actually do anything, so you really should do what kirby said

Ditch the yellow glow on the logo, and dirty up the decorative end-things on the sidebar. Looks good :v:

Alright I changed the logo, is it better?

Kriby, concerning the green, I'm going to offer a few different CSS styles with different colors, namely blue.

Thanks.

Not that some wierd things might appear (Login Login) and I'm a Guest hidden at the top. Those are debug tests while I'm trying to php code the site. Damn login script is giving me a run for my brain. :(

Note that of course I know nothing of php so :P NEWB POWER"

I'd have to agree.

I've heard that too, but have yet to see a good explination that wasn't some designer-typographoer elitist bull****.

Anyway, I love the look of it. Fantastic!

Edit: Maybe the menu text should be bigger or bolder? It's a little hard to see.

I like. Also, keep in mind, that a couple of those errors will disappear once you get your loginscript working okay and not repeating information >.>

Typically, html documents only have one "body" section and one "html" section. I've never seen the "body" tag nested before. It looks like you have two "body" starts and stops, one "html" start, but only one "html" stop tag. You should have only one "body" and "html" start tag, and one end tag each. That should take care of quite a few of your errors from the validation page. The other errors seem to be mostly due to improperly matched start and end tags for your divs.

If this is due to your scripts you should check how the code is generated. It appears that your news script is pulling in fresh "body" and "html" tags to surround the news info. It should only pull in the news data not the base document html. Only the data that is dynamic should be done with php, everything else should be hardcoded. I take it this is what Cool Matty is talking about?

I also like the layout but agree that the font is hard to read on the texture. Consider perhaps only having the texture around the edges and have it blend into a solid background color that would be behind the text.

A solid background would pretty much ruin the website design. The texturing is the beauty of that site. I'll figure something else, because there no way I'm making a ****ty background for it.

Well I gave in and removed noise from the parchement texture and lightened it a bit. And then darkened the text. I guess you can read well enough now.
