Workspace Manager 2

You may remember my last thread on this.

Well, I fixed some of the problems, made the code more efficient (also switching feels more smooth now because it makes windows invisible from the bottom upwards.)

Features:
Win+Number keys (Not numpad at the moment.): switch workspace (and in this version it stops the numbers being sent to the active application.)

Win+Shift+Number keys (again, top keys not numpad keys.): Move active window to workspace.

New workspace switcher in the taskbar! Acts like a normal toolbar.

Download here

Installation:

1) Extract all files to whereever you want to install the workspace manager.

2) If you want the taskbar switcher run setup.exe then right click the taskbar go to toolbars and select "Workspace Manager"

3) Run WorkspaceManager.exe

Uninstallation:

Run uninstall.exe. Delete all files. You wont be able to delete switcher.dll until you reboot.

Limitations:
-The switcher is (for the time being) limited to workspaces 1-4 even though there are 10 workspaces.
-The hotkeys are not changable. (I'll add a configuration dialog at some point so you can define your own. But imho, using the windows key is best because few other applications use it.)
-Only tested on XP.

So you can save a workspace of open programs as a shortcut? I don't understand?

I guess it's like the multiple desktops in KDE and Gnome and so on. It's handy for people working on different tasks at the same time, if these tasks include lots of windows (mine usually don't...i never use multiple desktops although I'm using Gnome).

This is pretty cool, could come in handy when I'm programming on my laptop's small-*** screen.

Thanks.

How come everyone waited 5 months before replying?

Heh, I've been slowly working on a newer version with better Vista support and more features.

Guess nobody saw it the first time. I never visit this forum, just happened to see the thread title in the "Last post" thing on the main forum listing and thought it sounded interesting.

Just a note to those about to install it, you have to unzip everything to the directory that you want the program installed in (ex. c:\program files\workspace manager), then run setup.exe. I didn't figure this out the first time and ended up accidentally installing it to the temp directory that Winzip uses when you run an install, which didn't work so well.

[edit]The OP outlined all of that clearly in the first post, I guess I just don't read very well ;)

[edit2]Oh, and are there any plans to be able to drag windows from one workspace to another? ie. if a window extends past the right side of workspace 1 the part that gets cut off ends up in workspace 2? That'd be neat.
