Its been a pretty boring weekend. Or at least boring enough to conceive and make this:

720 x 400 / 1.8Mbs

Critiques are welcome. A few things I've already noticed were that depending on which monitor I use the whites can look somewhat muted. Also, I did all the movements at the last minute so in some frames you can see the edges of the composition. One thing I wish I did was do the color trails in 3D so I could have them go behind the actors, but that's another day, another boredom. For those who didn't get it.

Looks very good!

After effects + Trapcode 3dstroke I imagine?

The thing i dont like is that the trails are coming straight from the tip of the handle. Did you use the videocopilot tutorial for this? Either way, i suggest looking at the one about motion tracking as well. Maybe you could make a blade shape for the 3d stroke?

The full length of the blade needs to leave a trail. And the 3D color trail thing sounds good too. ;)

Close, it was Particular. The tutorial I used was on Creative Cow.

The whole blade was going to be the original idea, but it would look terrible and the trails would cover the whole screen making the effect kind of shotty.

Er... particular... yea. thats what I meant.

Both are trapcode though!

Anyway, could you possibly do the full blade like this:

Have the tip of the blade the brightest particle, and as the trail goes down it fades away? Like a gradient!

why not just the end then?
you see the least movement down on the bottom of the blade...

I don't know, it looked weird to me, leaving only trails down by the handles.

The second clip looked like you forgot to cut out some of the background. There are blobs of background that kind of appear and vanish at random times.

Yes. There were a few markers on the greenscreen that I did not remove. If I were doing it for an assignment or freelance job I probably would have done more to it (like make it actually function in 3D space.) I actually edited out a few of the markers but did not really want to bother on all of them. I'll add it to the checklist of things to do when I go for version 2.0. ;)

Thats someone's with the entire saber as a trail. You can see what I mean by it being too dominate.
