My fave bit atm is designing realistic alien creatures.

i.e, no stupid teeth/horns/big eyes etc

i notices on tv that elephants that bathe showed a strange facial structure.

So, take away the ears, bigger head, and trunk, and....

you get a strange head.

what makes the features you mentioned unrealistic and the creature you drew realistic?

working out their evolution and the reasons for their body structure and biology.

maybe not so evident in one picture, but i'm talking other creatures i've seen in films/games/stories.

Its widely accepted that a sentient creature would have no more than 6 legs, any more would require too much thought process. Thats one example.

The gravity of a planet, the thickness of an atmosphere etc.
