Lately I've been undergoing a project to create fan art for some of the things which have had the most impact on my life. Anyway. I've noticed there is a serious lack of fan art for Kyle Katarn before his Jedi knight days. I wanted to bring him back to the old hardcore glory you feel when blowing down rows of storm troopers and other things.

Any suggestions as to how I should adjust the pile of corpses, or maybe even the muzzle of the assault cannon would be great. As well as anything else that seems amiss.

Looks good, but I've never seen what Kyle looks like "officially" in Dark Forces. Are there any reference pictures?

It's hard to work off of because you only get a limited view of him during two of the cutscenes.

There are some crappy action figures of him as well. But I don't care to post them.

Totally badass. The face could use work but otherwise awesome.

That is absolutely kickass. I'm more and more jealous of people who know how to draw. :P Would love to this in higher res, inked and (digitally) colored.

I'm really hoping to get this done soon. I actually stopped working on it about three months ago and recently found it in an older sketch book. But this time I feel really enthuseastic about it. I screwed up on the face with the inking, and I think the idea of adding bodies all over the place made it kind of frustrating. But I've learned a few things since then. Anyway, thank you guys for the compliments. I'll try to badassen it up some more. I'll rescan when it's all inked.

The drawing itself looks awesome, but in my opinion it really doesn't look anything like Kyle Katarn.

Agreed.

The face needs some work. That will come with I can start working on it in Photoshop. I was going mainly for his look in Dark Forces. Which doesn't have much resemblance compared to the JK version. This is all I really have to go by.

It wasn't just the face I thought was off, the hair also seems too wild, and the overall design of him makes him look like he's some sort of Gothic necromancer with a Bryar pistol. However, like I said, I think it's an excellent drawing, I just don't see a Kyle Katarn in there :P

Try using these also.

I think it'd look more like Kyle if he was a little bit stockier. Not much, mind you, but just a little bit more than what you have. Perhaps if you just made the waist a bit bigger.

Also, I'm not a big fan of the hair. Not sure why, maybe it just seems a little bit too long.

Everything else looks great through. Nice job. :)

yeah, what they said.

also, the head of the corpse he is putting his right foot on should be tilted, possibly to the left or something. right now i just see him walking on top of a (alive) crowd.

Yeah, that's another thing...Kyle is much larger. His waistline is not that thin.

To sum up: More Kyle Katarn, less Gambit :P:awesome::P

I'd go with a different weapon on the right too, personally, since this seems to overthrow the composition.

Personally, I like Katarn the way he's now. It's pretty rare I get to see an original look of the character. I especially dig the goggles. So while he may not look like the classical rough, heavy-weight-boxer-esque Katarn from the original DF, he still looks pretty damn good.

Awesome drawing, but if it weren't for the Bryar pistol I wouldn't have recognized it as Kyle. I think the face is a bit too gaunt, but it sounds like you'll be working on that.

looks awesome, kind of what id imagine he would look like if he were 17 or 18. excellent drawing.

It's a sweet drawing but it bears almost no resemblance to Kyle Katarn.
