So I'm forced to put something I made in two days just for kicks to fill in the void that is the Showcase forum. .(

JK has been so heavily modded since the old days.

The break in the wall isn't very convincing. Are you doing texture work? Perhaps some alpha-maps of explosion?

Is this better looking?

The way the world just -ends- in the distance is a little weird. Maybe try tossing in some hills or taller bushes/etc. Something. Looks pretty, though.

It's clearly a WIP. I'm focusing entirely on the church area right now, and pretty soon I'll put in rolling hills to advance over and a few houses to bust through.

Better, but still really angular. Why is there still a door frame, let alone a wooden door?

Looks good. A shame I've never been able to put that much detail in any map I've made. :\

Then again, desperately empty? You should have seen it a few months back when there actually weren't any active threads for a few days.

I can see that working really well for Red Orchestra. Good use of the UE2 Editor.

Dernit kirbs you're making me focus more on this doorway than the rest of the map. :gonk:

:o *drool* that last shot is awesome! as for the door, just remember its details like that that can make or break a level.

The door looked fine in the first shot. Maybe you should make the door frame laying on the ground in front of the room. It looks weird still intact.
Think while it's still legal.

Yeah, WHY is there a door frame still standing? Wouldn't the same kind of stone be in the same kind of rubble as the rest of the wall?

And yeah, Alran makes a great point. Lots of people's games are really enhanced by the little details. Anyone can make a boxy gameplay map, like almost every custom CSS map is, or you can really work out the details to produce something that puts the player in the game.

Like Day of Defeat Source maps: The detail on those maps can really make the experience immersion.

Also, I might have changed from critic to director, but maybe you could splinter and smash some of the roof wood in other places to really give it that run down feel.

I'd also like to know how the gameplay of this map is going to work. All you've shown us is a church, so I'm nitpicking about it. But what will the premise of the map be?

If the ceiling has been removed, why would the wooden rafters be in such good shape.

Shouldn't they be all splintery, haggard, and broken?
2007-08-09, 1:57 AM #18
I think I liked the sun better, but it's arguable. Maybe go midway and do one of those bright sky rainy days? Again, your level and I've ghostedited enough already.

Very cool. I like the open field the best. The HDR makes it looks like the player is on ecstacy.

Wow, man it looks amazing. Personally, I liked the rainy / foggy atmostphere better. And I just noticed that the picture hanging inside the church are all nicely aligned. It would look cool if some of them were just tilted to one side.

Damn preseason has made me too busy to work on this very often. Whateva kid.

[EDIT: I am aware that the wall in the middle of the house looks incredibly unrealistic and unstable. I'm trying to fix some gorram problem I'm having with the editor and all the builder brushes I make being horribly out of alignment before I can fix that. :gonk:]
