This is my entry for the single player level contest. You play as Mara Jade, during the original trilogy, when she was still an Emperor's Hand.

The objective is to assassinate a high-ranking defector who is fleeing from the Empire. You track him to this old facility that the Rebels have turned into an outpost.

This is the level start area. Your Z-95 crash lands into a canyon.

Some more shots of the canyon.

Some room inside the base.

The communications array. The dishes move and realign periodically.

Lighting is temporary, and some of the texturing decisions are not final.

I like it a lot, has a classic JK look. Puts me in a single-player 'shoot stormies' mood :D

I really like the pipes under the dishes.

Would it be possible make the crash site more crash site-ish? It looks like she accidentally backed a ship up and it fell in the river (like a bad parking job). Other than that, looks like good work to me!

I agree about the crash site. Little things could do the trick, like some simple animated "foamy water" textures around the half-sunken ship, so it doesn't look like it's stuck in jello.

[edit]
I have a few more texturing suggestions which might require a little fiddling, so don't bother about them if your time is limited and you want to focus on gameplay. </project manager> :P

- To make the water a little more realistic, you could have a cog randomly generate little 'foam' 3dos here and there to simulate little waves.
- If you get a little ebbing water texture going, you should cleave narrow surfaces by the edges of the water surface and add it there, to simulate the water lapping on the banks.
- The base of the banks at the stream's surface should be slanted in, since they are not as eroded.
- I'd surface cleave along the bank edges and add a grass-to-rock edge, so the vegetation doesn't end abruptly.
- Make a few flat 3dos with a variety of moss textures, sprinkle them along the canyon walls. You can do the same trick with cracks and other canyon wall features to break up the monotony of the base texture.
- Inside the base, the ceiling texture with the lights doesn't look natural where it touches the wall, especially the slanted part. I'd make a small transition texture there.

Thanks for your time :)

The spaceship doesn't look very damaged. Where'd you get it?

The water texture's godawful, good to see familiar textures at "some room". Looks like it's gonna become a neat SP level.

All the shots are awesome. I like that gun, too.

That transparent canopy looks great....how'd you get that to work out? I usually have problems with transparent surfaces on 3DOs. It usually prevents other 3DOs from being rendered on the other side of the transparency.

You have to flag any non-translucent 3DOs as "world architecture", and leave that flag unchecked on the ones that should be translucent.

Brian, thanks but the gun is just from JKE. :)

I suggest some scaring on the walls and maybe a trail on the land left behind from the ship crash landing. Also, a simple touch would be to add some smoke coming form the ship to show that its broken.

Aside from that I will label those pics "swank-tastic"
The tips at the end of shoelaces are called "aglets". Their true purpose is sinister.

I need to load that up and play it a bit, then, eh?

Emon wanted me to give him SotD for a repositioned x-wing alliance prop and a busty lumpy mara jade model.

What do you guys think?

When did I want an admin position? (and I'm just screwing with Emon, he knows it.)

Anyone who spends that much time in something as horrible as Milkshape3D deserves SotD.

I think the ship looks friggin awesome now, but the crash site looks too plain. It's looks more like the fighter magically materialized there rather then crashing. Maybe spice that up a bit too?
Lyrics are highly overrated.

Yeah, I'm working on that.

Thanks for the comments guys, they've been very useful. Right now I'm finishing the rest of the main architecture of the level, then I'll go back for this smaller stuff.

I think you should have a waterfall where the water seems to dead end against the canyon wall in the picture where you're standing on the wing. It seems a little abrupt to have the river/stream just stop immediately on the wall like that, maybe the waterfall would make it feel better.

Awesome ship model, and I like the water effect. I second the comments about making the ground more scorched from the crash, though. Good job! Meh, now I'm definitely going to have to reinstall JK when the entries are out.

If Emon does it on time, it'll be released some time after the Deadline of the Single Player Contest, namely September 30th.

It's JK, you have to work within the limitations of the engine. The original levels just used cleaved cliff surfaces and flagged parts of them sky, which created really weird looking jagged edges. I think Emon's captures the essence of what he is going after, and adding so much detail to a place you're probably only going to be in for a short while seems a waste of effort.
