So I'm in my final semester of College and I have one class left which is Portfolio.
One of our asignments has to be a poster for something.
Doesn't have to be for something real.
The thing is, I've only ever done one acctual poster.
And that one sucked.
So I got an idea to make a poster out of this piece I've been making off & on for about the past month.

But I've got no idea what to make the poster for.
All I know is that I want to use this for it.

So, my request to yall is to make up some kind of conference/concert/movie/play/random event that this could be the poster for.

Feel free to crit the piece itself just remember that it is still very much a WIP.
I've still got a long way to go on the image itself.
but I want to start planning now for what the final poster would be for the sake of any changes that may be needed.

Are you trying to draw our attention to the lightpost or where the buildings are going in the distance? Both are very much conflicting with each other (lightpost due to different color, buildings due to how it moves the eyes). And I think that's a concern.

That's a good question.
The buildings are going to get much darker and the lamppost is going to get lighter. It's current state is mostly due to starting with a light color in the BG and a dark color on the post.
Kind of wanting the focus to be on the trangle between the bottom of the post, the box on the right (which has some funky perspective right now) and the vanishing point.

I'd still really like ideas for some sort of event this could make a poster for.

anyway, you really need to increase the contrast. The shadows need to be a lot darker. The buildings down the road should be darker. Add some darker darks and lighter lights and itll really help it pop.

Yea itll really add a lot of depth to the scene. You might want to consider using some textured brushes too, those help add some finer detail.

This might be kind of late, and i didnt real ALL the posts... but i think it would look cool if a shrouded character (like the theif in the 'theif' games) were leaning against the opposite side of the pole, with his head turnd to the right and the light from a smoke was illuminating his face.

It's certainly not too late, This project isn't due for another 3 weeks.
And while I appriciate the suggestion, that might be more than I can get done in that time.

mb- do you know of any good tutorials or explanations of useing texture brushes?
I made this in GIMP, but i have photoshop (CS2 at home and access to CS3 at school).
Most everything I've found has simply said "use texture brushes" rather than going into any detail as to HOW to use them.

Uhm. When i get back to my apartment i can upload you some texture brushes. I dont know of any tutorials for them, I just kind of messed around with them and figured out how they worked like that. I assume you have a tablet? a combination of pressure sensitivity and things like that really help.

Yeah, I have a tablet but sadly it has no pressure sensitivity.
It's a really old wacom and it's not very good and right now I just can't aford to get anything better.

What settings do you use with your texture brushes?

What's up with the box there? it looks like one of those giant pastel colored boxes that kinder gardeners sit on in class. Why is it there?

I dunno. As I was scribbling it started to take that shape so I kept going.
It, like everything else, need much refinement.
Think I need to take it out?

There's light under the lamp but the lamp looks like it's off.

Other than that, cool.

If the light is indeed on, maybe a soft beam of light.

I turned the light on and removed the box. Also, other things.

It's like a canyon backalley in a lucasarts sierra adventure game.

In short, it should be a poster for a secret meeting in regards to the end of the world.

NO! put the box back... only turn it into a news stand or a mail box or something. and move it a little further down the ally... yes

I might consider that for latter revisions of the image itself but for now, no.
It's due thursday so I'm not likely to change much if anything between now and then in favor of finishing other things.
