Hey guys (or whoever still checks this little forum), it's been quite a while since I posted here, hopefully a few of you remember me.

I'm a college freshman now, and an Acting major, so not a lot of time for editing pursuits and interests, which are notorious for eating up large chunks of time. Since I was home from college for three weeks for the holidays, I thought I'd take a shot at designing for UT2k4.

Now, I've never designed levels for a game other than Jedi Knight, especially one with such a different interface and brushes instead of sectors, so go easy on me. I read a few tutorials, and after a few days I came up with this:

This is my first level for UT2k4 (except a 1 box room), and is obviously still in the early stages. I have some ideas for where the room design could go, but it's mostly just for fun and with my vacation nearing a close, probably won't get finished. Still wanted to post it here and see what you guys thought. Happy New Year in any case! :D

Looks nice! The columns look sort of funny- are they prisms, or are those indentations in the side? (Kind of hard to tell from this angle...)

Also, in the second room, some of the textures look a little off (the tiles), but- seriously, nice work. I'd shoot it up.

Hope you're doing well at college, man. Been doing a lot of our favorite playwright?

I don't quite understand what you mean about the columns. There are no indentations, just a cylinder brush with a texture on it.

And I'm sure some of the tile textures are a bit off, I haven't fully aligned them yet. And I'm doing well at college, thanks, but no Shakespeare at the moment. :)

Daft Vader, where did you go. You know you have to report to your parole officer, Mr. Massassi.

Its looks like good progress. Sorta mysterious I think. The real concern is that portions of the map feels kinda "muted", maybe because of the brownish-grey textures. Or maybe because a sense of uniformity (all of the columns and stuff are in perfect condition). I like the way you added some plant life, I think that does wonders of grabbing interest and adding needed contrast. Perhaps add to wear-and-tear to the tomb place?

Another detail that somewhat bothers me is regarding lightsources. When the light comes from the open area to the sky, it makes sense (and looks nice on the plants). But, for example of the last pic with your first post, there is a "spotlight" effect with the lighting but where the light is coming from makes no real sense.

:)

Daft! I haven't seen or talked to you in ages! Glad to see you're still around, and making your wonderful levels! I enjoy the look if it, and don't actually have any constructive criticism :awesome:
