Hey everyone!
I just recently started making levels and wanted a few people's opinions before I submitted to Massassi.

Here is a link to my site [the site is still a work in progress]
http://www.geocities.com/jango_fett_...ght_level.html

Please let me know what you think, I'd really appreciate the feedback!

Do you have a time machine that takes you back to and from 1996?

haha my thoughts exactly.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Nostalgic.

Really, there is no better example of this word.

yes, I know, I made the level in jkedit, but what does everyone think of the level gameplay?

Not sure. Why is the resolution so small, it's hard to see. How old is your computer?

I don't want to sound like a prick, but if your computer is that old to the point it can't manage Jedi Knight higher than 600x300, I suggest investing in a better system for your future level editing career.

I'm not sure why the resolution is so bad. my computer is pentium 4, just bought it a couple years ago. I sent the level to a friend and it was fine he didn't say anything about that. can you at least let me know about the gameplay? in the mean time I will try to work that out.

It looks perfect. Don't change a thing.

Have you tried out JED (or ZED now) instead of JKedit? Because alot of your level, from what I can see, consists of boxy rooms with just 3dos and things in it. It's a decent start of editing, but I think you should download JED and read the many tutorials Massassi has. A good approach next time is don't think about stormtroopers and 3dos but instead just play with the level architecture. When ignoring the enemies and such, the architecture is very bland. But don't feel bad, everyone starts off like this.

PS, your crashes some time after I start your level, so I'm looking at the screenies on your website too.

I'll be perfectly honest with you... find a newer game. It's going to be really hard for you to jump right in and get all the help you need because the JK community is dead.

Jump into a newer game at least, like Jedi Outcast/Academy (but those games are almost as dead as JK is). GTK Radiant is much easier to learn, and JED/ZED is assbackwards and it's about as user-friendly as a brick shoelace.

I know it sucks because JK is a great game, but in reality, you're not going to kid anyone into thinking that a game that's more than 10 years old has anyone really playing it anymore.

Blasphemer! JED is the only editor that DOES IT RIGHT!

I would recommend the Source engine. Team Fortress 2 and Portal are just screaming for new levels right now.

Also you should look for inspiration in the games you play for your level architecture. The next time you play a game, take a look at that stuff and think about how you would make it or something like it. It might give you ideas. It's also a good idea to look for levels that you can crack open in a level editor just to see how they're put together.

I would suggest you start out with a duel level. Then you can pack as much detail into a small area as you want and still have a legit level. It's a good start. :)

I tried radient for outcast and this is what I have so far...
http://www.geocities.com/jango_fett_007/unnamed_project.html

Is a sp map the same as a multiplayer map? if not, then what do you need to do to make it an mp map?

Wow, nice first try! :) I've seen far worse first attempts at radiant (including mine). In order to change between MP and SP editing, you need to open project settings (under File) and change the settings. You need to restart the editor in order for it to take effect, though. The basics are the same, but MP and SP editing have a few different entities.
