I used this awful sketch and toon filter to render it, check it out

It's a little fighter instead of their big capital ships. maybe I should be captainnumbers

Looks fun as hell to fly. Only problem with the design I can see being that, since the cockpit juts forward, the pilot wouldn't be able to see that bottom fin and as such it'd be really easy to lose track of how much space it takes up, and easy to cut that thing off as you do a low pass.
DO NOT WANT.

I do fighters too ;)

I really like the design. The problem of not being able to see the bottom is true, but the B-wings deal with the same issue. The pilots are gonna just have to deal with it, it's a problem with any high or wide craft with a cockpit off-centered.
Model it! :D

Yes, but their cockpits can rotate. If I have to come in for a low pass, I prefer being able to kick the ground.

Personally, I would see that lower fin as an S-foil of sorts, rotating backwards so the missiles as-is point down for low atmospheric flight/landing. Would only lose use of a couple weapons, and still keep the low profile when needed.
Very nice though, would be interesting to see how it would handle in XWA.

Never played Starcraft, so I'll have to say that's a coincidence :saddowns:

Yeah, I immediately thought it was a starcraft rendition. Can we see a non-toon render?

cameras, hello

My friend has a Prius that does that, I'm pretty sure a big ****ing starfighter of death won't have that problem.

Cameras can't hold a candle to the ability to 'feel' your vehicle. If you can't see crap underneath your cockpit, I would not trust a camera that can easily malfunction with my life. I would never trust one of those rearview cameras in newer cars nearly as much as I'd trust simply looking back myself.
DO NOT WANT.

Looks neato. Do you want critiques on any particular part of it? If not, I'll stick with it's pretty neato, and the level of detail is nice :)

Do you think pilots can see under their cockpits in real life?

thats awesome! see, its much better when you draw, rather than pretending you're a black rapper :p

I'm pretty sure a civilization that can build a starfighter like that also has some advanced 3D displays that are damn close enough to the real thing.

Besides, you can't see under the cockpit in real life anyway.

I think it's the F-35 helmet that has a self-contained projection system for a virtual 360 view around the aircraft. Maybe even the F-22, can't remember.

360 degree on the horizontal plane, pretty sure.

Either way.. a pilot still can't see the bottom of his plane. When you get your certifications for a specific aircraft, the size and shape is a big deal. Like at what exact height over the ground the main gear will touch the ground.

I'm sure space ships are probably almost the same sans the licensing.

suffice it to say that all your arguments about the design inadequacies of this ship are moot. the main principle behind the design was probably "to make it look cool", with limited regard to functionality and real engineering concepts.

Think we could see a real render? Looks good tho :tfti:

Off topic but relates to a comment earlier. The F-35 Lightning II better known as the Joint Strike Fighter, does have an HMD (Helmat Mounted Display). It offers the pilot a COMPLETE 360 tactical view. It doesnt offer terrain mapping below the aircraft, but rather offers target tracking and sitational monitering. Also the JSF offers a look-down/shoot-down capability forst demonstrated on the Army's AH-64 Apache. More questions bout the F-35? just ask. Lol.
