Taking a break from the Karlot vessels; decided to tackle one of the larger starships from the other side. It is essentially done, I just have to add a little bit of dirt to the dorsal ridges still, and a few minor burns and marks.

Condensten-class Frigate
~340 meters
Armament: 11 medium ball turrets, 18 light anti-starfighter batteries, 10 missile racks (7 missiles each)
Defenses: Fighter wing
Purpose: Anti-starship, armed heavily enough to combat small vessels like Cutters and Packets and can hold its own against Battleships. Medium base ship, can hold 2 squadrons of fighters and several support ships. Hangar has loading elevator which leads to a secondary storage bay.

Needs more guns, less water-ship-ness.
2008-07-12, 4:16 PM #5
Water-ship-ness? Dude thats what nmakes it all good. I mean look at the Yamato (Starblazers) It was an awesome warship and it looked like a watership. I mean also its an original design.!

My only suggestion would be that the keel's firing arc seems *really* under-covered. Two balls, 2 or 3 light cannons? Yeah, a couple more on the side once you enter the port or starboard firing arcs, but a solid assault from the keel would rip it to shreds.

Very detailed model though (of course, that's standard from the Generals :P), nice texturing work around the engines and the modular sections (post 2, pic 2).

Is the green paint all part of FG colors?

I may consider adding some more guns to the nose. Although, if a starship is mounting an attack from directly in front, five medium turrets should be able to bear on it (at least at a certain range). I could easily add another 2 or three light batteries to the nose without much work. I could also mount two more medium batteries on the top of the nose, but it will require reshuffling the greeble locations.

all the green is on a separate layer so I can easily adjust what color it is, should make implementing flight-group colors easy. Here's mustard yellow:

Nice! Work out those smoothing problems and maybe add a little AO (although that might be a bad move on something that size, I dunno) :]

AO? I'm still using C4D, if that will help you make specific suggestions for better lighting in the shots

I do agree, the keel section needs protection. Its like attacking an ISD from the rear (minus engine wash). A squadron of B-Wings packing space bombs could wipe it out. But still a sweet ship.

Also--I didn't know you could do UV mapping in C4D. Is there a tutorial?
2008-07-13, 7:15 PM #15
Ohh man youre doing that in cinema? Neat. Ive been meaning to learn more modeling with cinema.

Also Thrawn, the UV Mapping can be done in Bodypaint I think.

nonononono... the renders were done in C4D. I modeled it in JED (that's right!) and UV mapped in Ultimate Unwrap 3d.
