Red Cups Teaser
2009-05-07, 12:25 PM #1
Long story short: Some friends and I made a short film as part of a festival (Make a movie in 5 days). It may be the worst thing I've ever been a part of, but it's essentially 8 minutes of inside jokes, so naturally, we also love it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHlu4ykYQV0). In the making of this movie, the character "Neil" was created. Below is a teaser trailer for a movie detailing Neil's past called 'Red Cups'. The teaser has nothing to do with the movie at all, and was essentially the love child of alcohol, the last day of class, and too much free time at 3am. Enjoy.

P.S. Apologies to Schumacher.

Hah cool. The pacing is a bit weird though. Some of the cuts feel a bit too long like the opening of the closet/grabbing the shirt and then at the end before the title screen appears.

also... was that a Dharma initiative shot glass? >_>

Nice. Forget the kung-fu zooms. The zoom on your cam isnt fast enough. LOVE the titles, though. Tone down the flashiness of the camerawork. The big focus pull looked nice but it just seemed like an excuse for one. Better lighting is a must. And learn to white balance.

Very nice; just nees some work.

Overall, I give it an 7.5/10

Also there are several shots that just need a bit trimmed from each side, too much lingering.

The shots were actually all color corrected to look blown out and sepia. We color corrected more around 3000-4000K to make it easier to retain the sepia look in post. Bringing out the blacks and blowing out the whites also added to the film graininess of it all. Although when he is 'suiting up' some of the shots need to be adjusted, because the blacks are rather milky.

Also, the zoom-ins are meant as a nod (more of a stab- what useless shots) to Schumacher's opening scene where Batman and Robin gear up- Seriously, who let Schumacher near a camera in the first place?!

P.S. The lighting was done with two desk lamps. >.<

P.P.S. I agree with the lingering shots. The trailer was originally cut much faster, but then we decided to change the music from Supermassive Blackhole (Acapella) to "All Is Well, My Friend" by Jack Wall.

Thanks for the feedback, I really do appreciate it. Stuff like that helps me think more actively on set instead of trying to fix everything in post.
