Baconfish Builds A Geetar

Oh look, my first showcase thread in several years! :D

So yeah I'm starting to build myself a guitar and I thought I'd document my progress here so I can get Massassi input amongst other places. For those of you that don't know anything about said instruments you might just want to skip to the pretty photoshop mockups further down.

For those of you that do know your stuff this is going to be a hybrid of a Jaguar and Jazzmaster - I love Jags but I can't really get used to the shorter scale. So far it's going to have a 2 piece American Alder body
Allparts LRO Maple/Rosewood neck with a CBS headstock that I'll reshape to Jazzmaster dimensions. Fender Adjustomatic bridge and hopefully an AVRI Jazzmaster Tremolo, and I have some funky switching planned that I'll explain in more detail later. I'm going to equip this with 2 humbuckers, most likely vintage to moderate output and I'm looking at ordering from Rock Monkey Guitars; I like that I've heard of their pickups.

All finishing options are subject to change but heres the original mockup I've done in a transparent blue with an Anodized Aluminium pickguard. MB suggested that I'd look better in red so I also fiddled with it for a colour not unlike the Cherry finish you get on Gibson SGs.

Body wood that came in the post the other day: :D

Oh, and I was curious about putting a Bigsby on it, so check out this Jaguar in black with a Bigsby B5.

Nice socks!

On a more serious note, I don't know much about guitars but that seems like a pretty sweet and difficult endeavor. I wish you luck and look forward to seeing your updates.

I like to dabble in a little bit of everything apart from Jazz. :P

Damn uni work has been mounting up for the last week so I'm not going to be able to get any real work done until next weekend. :( I did just budget out all the parts I need and it's looking just a tad pricier than I expected.

I've actually had a cheaper idea in the back of my mind for a while but I probably won't go for that. But here's a picture of The Edge playing the closest thing I can find. It's basically a strat in a jazzmaster body. :D

I thought you might have been into the Ventures or something.

haha, now I want my own jazzmaster. It's not my favourite Fender design, I like the Showmaster the best I think...

It's weird, I've played guitar for ten years but I've never really...like...coveted them until now...

When you're done, can you build me one of these?
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Nine Months Later!

Yeah so whilst my other practice build is curing in the garage [it'd be hanging outside if it would ever stop bastarding raining] I did a little design work with my Jazzmaster plans. Since a Jazzmaster and Jaguar have slightly different bodies and whatnot I have to sort of force the two of them together to avoid it looking like arse.

I think I've got some pretty solid plate placements, so now I can knock up some templates for routing. And ignore the scratchy quick pickup markings, they're not being used. :P
nope.
