Salvaging SMD caps is a little ridiculous considering their price, but I suppose it's not bad to have them around when you need them.

particularly if they happen to be of odd values

my only problem is i dont currently have a way to measure their capacitance :) i bet it could be built :tinfoil:


the video is really more that i just got the thing and it has MUCH better air flow than a microtorch with a heatblower tip ;) ;)

Are you going to do much soldering with it or mostly disassembly and reflow?

I bought a Hakko 936 soldering station a while ago and it's fantastic.

i built a reflow toaster oven which is for reflow baking. the hot air is probably only going to be for rework.


this is an old picture.. i have a few mistakes and added components since then :) it was reflowed in the oven (had to debridge all 3 ICs.. im still learning solder paste .. hehe)


first item replaced using the hot air was 3.3v regulator: old one was putting out over 4v, probably because i had some pcb shorts earlier.. yikes XD

totally outsourcing my board construction next time 'round :carl:
