Sorry its not stargate, actually, i'm not.

So I was still using Milkshape in year 1.
9 months ago i started using 3ds max. Much better.
Just after that I started using Photoshop, rather than Paint shop pro,
and started using a graphics tablet. Niiice.
And finally a month ago, i started Using something called Zbrush

One of the aims in term 2 games production is to create a new portfolio. one of my pieces is trying to duplicate the predator (film) and keep it restricted to the amount of polygons from the avp3 game, 16000 Triangles.

This definately looks awesome, Ruthy, though, and by all means I'm not trying to shoot you down or deter you from your plans, wouldn't original work do you and your portfolio more justice than remaking existing characters? I know you have the creative power to do it, for certain. Like that gun-wielding soldier facing off with that creepy alien art you made a while back. (Note: I dont work in the game design field, so this is purely speculative)

Regardless its yet another excellent piece by you and I think you're going places. :D

If he's trying to get a job in the game industry, showing off the topography on the character model is a plus; it doesn't matter whether ot not the character is original or not. Showing the low poly vs the high poly (zbrush especially) is also important.

If you've got a portfolio I can forward it to some dudes and they can critique it if you want.

Not necessarily. 3D artists don't usually design the characters.

Thanks for the comments guys :) The critique is better here than my coursemates.

I'm doing both my own creations and duplications of other existing ideas, thus showing my own imagination and my ability to translate ideas of other artists in 3d realm.

At 1st i wanted to do Concept Art, but changed my mind, its not a stable career. Still not sure what i want to do.

One more update for now, i may post my own creations later.

Gettleburger I could send u something in 2 weeks time after deadlines, would be interested to hear feedback from people in general. My course leader made AVP 1 (and 2?) but he's a grumpy ******* and he hates everything i do. :(

I don't know about that, necessarily, I know a couple people who do nothing but concept art for a company. But it looks like you'll do fine either way!

Especially after seeing the textures, it seems the shoulder pad has a lot of extra polygons that might be better spent elsewhere. It looks stunningly photo-realistic.

yeah i messed up mesh density on the shoulder cannons fore section. Not too much i can do to it now. Shoulder Cannon itself is also way too detailed.

Currently up to 6 million triangles now :(

I should really stop now, meant to be working on other things

You should model the face and make the helmet(mask whatever it is) removable too! that'd be sweet!

What a fine finished product! Great job with it Ruthven, I particularly like the face, but the overall detail and texture work is excellent.
