A couple of friends and I decided to self-publish a book for ourselves seeing as we're all moving away to different places. I just finished the front and back cover designs- They are very much inspired by listening to Muse and reading too much Ray Bradbury. I'm going for sort of a 1980's re-re-issue cover design, I don't know- It's sort of okay I guess. The original files are 11 x 17 @ 300PPI so excuse the obvious compression.

I think you hit the nail on the head if your intent was Bradbury-an. Gives me some Something Wicked and Martian Chronicles vibes.

As a Bradbury fan myself, it gets my thumbs up. Nice!

Not bad! The typography on the first one is a little default looking, and they could both do with a little more saturation, but they're looking pretty damn good.

Ooh, I really like this. If I'd see this cover in a bookstore, I'd pick it up and look through it.

@Thrawn: The de-saturation is due to the scratches and dust layers, I'll post the image before all that for you below. I like them both, but I liked the de-saturated look more for the old-school feel. I agree with you on the text completely. I had the text going at an angle at first, I tried it going along the roof tops in sections, I tried it around the moon and into the balloons, but in the end I got frustrated and lazy and just said "Well, it's supposed to look old, right?" but, it doesn't even look old, it just kind of looks bland.

@Koobie: It's a small collection (80 pages) of written works between 5 friends. It's a mix of poems, solipsisms, short stories, free-verse, haiku's etc... in a bunch of different formats.
