bored, here's what I did the last day or so with source. I wanted to make something post-apocalyptic and mysterious.

Cool, looks like it'd fit in well w/ my Left4Loko mod, I imagine the stash of 4Loko in this level would be up on that hill, beneath the orange glow.

You need to kill the bloom on those lights and get some wall decals on. Increase the contrast in the lighting in the interiors, it's really bright throughout, and on the outdoors it is very flat.

Very gritty, I like the flooded hallways.
For some reason when I look at this I just think modern Hound of the Baskevilles.

I love it -- though the blood is way too red, considering the apparent age of the stains.

Gettleburger- I actually was going for the 'extreme bloom' aesthetic at first, because (to me) it feels more intense and desperate. Also, the character just woke up from a blackout in a flooded basement- it makes sense that they would have a splitting headache, and as a result, the lights would appear painfully bright, right? :)

LordVirus- keep in mind that all of this is using stock HL2/ep2 resources. There isn't really anything I can do about that, there are no 'old stained blood' decals other than the one I already have in that staircase.

does HL2 not accept normal maps/specular ?

If by normal maps you mean like when lighting lights up the bumps in textures depending on the angle, yes it does, it just isn't overly dramatic like it is in most games. My level has working cubemaps and so on, just not visible in the angles you see there.
