Aquatic Angel

I was friends with seas and oceans of the world
My record stated a thousand dives
In cold, in heat, when waters whirled
I dived and lived a thousand lives

But on my thousandth-and-first
When diving in the Bismarck Sea
My oxygen tank burst
And I was suddenly set free

I drowned, there is no other explanation
And when I did, I met an underwater beauty
My mouth open in sheer fascination
My heart jerked back to its duty

Alive, surprised, I vowed to never dive again
Now all I do is dream of her and of the secrets depths contain
