The Nazi Tree
by Yours Truly
"Doctor? Can you hear me Doctor? Are you all right?"
Bohkampf wasn't all right. His head buzzed with pain, and he thought he might have cracked his skull when he fell to the floor. He tried to get himself together. He was an Officer of the Third Reich; his staff would not see him like this. He rolled over to his stomach and pushed himself up, using the table for support. For a second, he lost balance, and a couple of glass flasks fell from the table. He registered the terrified eyes of his assistant the second before the glass broke on the concrete floor.
The explosion sent them flying across the room. Bohkampf smashed against another assistant before the force of the blast hammered them both into the wall.
"Ugh..." said the assistant, pressed between the Doctor and the wall.
"Very good, my friends," said Bokhampf, "It works."
The Führer will be pleased, he thought, as his countless assistants cleaned up the mess. But it wasn't his liquid concussion grenades that would earn him his name in the Reich; no, that was child's play compared to his true ambition. He smiled, brushed the dust off his uniform and raised his hand up in a salute. Conversations stopped, everybody stood still, their eyes on him. There were about a dozen of them, lab coats and uniforms, most of them boys fresh out of the Universität.
"We have done good work, gentlemen," he said, then looked at Rita, the only woman in their company and gave her a polite nod, "And lady, of course. But there is much ahead! Open the door to the Baum-X Chamber."
The silence in the room dropped to a quieter level of quiet. Rita took a step forward. "No. Not yet! It's not ready!"
"It's as ready as it'll ever be! Now open the doors!"
"I come with you."
Rita had a brilliant mind. If he were to do what he was about to do, another brilliant mind could only help. "Fine. Let's go."
The others escorted them down to the chamber doors in resolute silence. The lead botanist and the head neurologist both entered their parts of the combination to the lock on the massive circular door, and the door rolled open. Bohkampf and Rita stepped inside.
Baum-X occupied most of the chamber. Its roots had fused with the floor and its branches covered the walls completely. It was like entering a tropical forest made up of one tree. But not just any tree! Baum-X was a super tree. Its branches were bent in unnatural straight angles; sharp spikes protruded from its bark at seemingly random places, like a fashion statement designed to tell something that was beyond the feeble minds of mortal minds. Baum-X was heaven on Earth, and it was a heaven of his design.
"Plug me in," he said.
"Doctor! It. Is. Not. Ready. You might die!"
"Just do it."
Rita took out the helmet, connected to the tree's base with a thick hose, and put it on Bohkampf's head. He knew the theory of what would happen next. The animal tests were a success. His mind, his being, his soul if you will, will be transferred into Baum-X. If it'll work, the rest of their great nation will follow. And after them, all the others. Jews, ******s, everybody will be the same. The war will be over. They will be beyond death itself. They will be Gods.
Rita pulled the switch.
