Does anyone know of a very inexpensive way to record guitar music, and a way/program to be able to post it here?

Plug guitar into line-in using adaptor if required. Use any program to record from line-in (you could also use the microphone port).

this is a bad idea unless you have something with at least half decent speaker simulation.. either hardware or software based

without some kind of speaker simulation any distortion comes out sounding bad no matter how good the amp, amp model, or distortion pedal is

here's a clip (http://members.aol.com/DrkJedi82/clip.ogg) to give you an idea of what i'm talking about

equipment used for clip:
Ibanez DTX120
DOD FX86B Death Metal Distortion

and before anyone says "it's the pedal" this would even happen with a tube amp going direct in (unless the amp has speaker emulated line out)

And then use a DirectX plugin in a program like Sonar to simulate a guitar amp/speaker cab. Plugins like Alien Connections' ReValver and especially iZotope Trash are worth looking at.

I just use the emulated line-out on my amp.

What equipment do you have, are you willing to spend anything, if so, what?

I thought ReValver was fun until I tried Trash (www.izotope.com (http://www.izotope.com)) - there are tons of new presets available for download, I think I've got about 400 in all without counting my own http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif I've put up a sample for you here (http://www.doigtsagiles.com/media/scorp.mp3) which was all done using only presets. It's a bit of Still Loving You by Scorpions, using 3 guitars, one bass and a sequeneced drum part. I was going for the retro-80s sound they had going back then. I've also been able to get more modern sounds of it, namely Metallica. http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif

[EDIT] Link fixed.

yeah i downloaded trash and i like it's cabinet models but it's EXPENSIVE...

oh and
DOD FX86 (http://members.aol.com/DrkJedi82/clip2.ogg) same source file used in the above clip to demonstrate the problem with direct recording distortion without cabinet modeling... end result wasn't as good as using a mic with my amp but that's because my amp and the fx86 work well together

Boss DS-1 (http://members.aol.com/DrkJedi82/ds1.ogg) it does work wonders with a DS-1... clip is cut short because i messed it up

note the clips are the actual pedals recorded direct into the computer then trash was used for it's cabinet modeling
