...that CD-R's are translucent. Is it just me? I just burned a CD, a Mitsui Gold CD-R, and as I was putting it in the jewel case, I noticed that I could see my keyboard through the disc. No, not the plastic hub in the middle, the actual reflective surface. Then I took a cheaper, silvery-backed cyanine CD-R and it, too, is translucent. I don't have any CD-RW's without solid labels on them at the moment, so I can't check them. Pressed CD's are opaque, but I've just never noticed that you can actually see through CD-R's.

heh, i noticed that with cd-rs quite a while ago, but the only cd-rw i have has a solid label, it always made me wonder in the choice of material and quality difference involved with a commercial cd or a blank cd.

Yeah, if you write on mine the writing is visible when you flip them over.

I have a CD that came in a pack of 50 CD-R's that is completley transparent! You cant write to it, but its the shape of a cd, with all the colours of a CD when you look at it the lines still go through the centre... its weird.

Yeah, they use those to separate the CDs into groups for selling purposes. I hate to break it to you but you're not special.

The ones I have at the moment have a plastic finish on them to make them look like old vinyl records, so they're definitely not see-through [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I've got a bunch of regular CDs (music and otherwise) that you can see through under the right conditions.

It's interesting... but the coolness of the effect lasted all of one minute on me.

I was just surprised that the metal layer is thin enough to pass light through.

My first spindle and all I got was a lousy styrofoam spacer the size of the center ring. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Seriously, who goes back and reads through all the archived threads to find the one they want to necropost?

You need to get outside more.
