As you probably know, Raven will be releasing an editor based on the popular Q3Radiant. We don't know what it's name is yet but it will probably be JORadiant. This is going to be a MAJOR change for those who have only known JED. Not only will they will they need to learn a new editor but also new editing concepts like brushes, entities, and patches.
Since we don't have JORadiant yet, we'll practise on Quake 3 Arena. You'll need the full version, not the demo, and you'll also need to choose which editor you want to use, Q3Radiant or GtkRadiant. There isn't much difference between them as they both use the same manual. JORadiant is based on Q3Radiant but GtkRadiant will support Outcast soon enough. Just make sure you don't get QERadiant! That is a Quake 2 editor and cannot make Quake 3 maps.
Despite it's name, QERadiant.com is the home of Q3Radiant and GtkRadiant. Also, QERadiant.com and Q3Radiant.com are the same site. It's a bit confusing as to which files you need so I've listed them here.
Q3Radiant Build 202 (7.1MB)
GtkRadiant 1.2.1 for Windows (21.5MB)
Now you'll need the manual. I find the WinHelp version to be the most useful.
WinHelp Version (463KB)

MS Word Version Mirrors
PDF Version Mirrors
If you'd rather use an online manual, you can find one here.
Online Version
And if QERadiant.com is down, you can get all the files here.

The first thing to do after downloading Radiant is to get it installed and configured. These tutorials will help you in that little adventure ;-)

Remember, to get a custom map to load you need to turn off the pure server option in Quake 3. You do this by lowering the console (~) and typing \sv_pure 0. Then you load the map by typing \map mapname.
If you are going load your map often, it is much quicker to put these commands in a shortcut. Copy the Quake 3 shortcut on your desktop and open it's properties. Change the target line to resemble something like this;
C:\quake3\quake3.exe +set sv_pure 0 +map mapname
If you have any questions about installing Radiant or making your first room, you can post them below. If your still having trouble, here are some other forums you can try.
