Rename "pk3" to "zip". When you're done, zip it up and change it to "pk3" again.

Well yes, that's what I currently do, but I was wondering if there's a way to get windows to read the .pk3 file as a compressed folder like it does with .zip files to eliminate the need for renaming.

I can just double click on the .pk3 and it'll open in WinZip...

Double-click on a .pk3 file, and choose whatever zip manager or whatever you want and press ok

The windows zip manager isn't an additional program, it's built into the Explorer interface. It's not on that list.
