So I got back into my GSX mod (thanks to FastGamerr), and have finally just finished the dark jedi sabers.

Haha, messing around with multiple instances, and this came up:

By standing in front of one another, you can get into, what one could call, "saber locks".

Of course, it's not actual saber locks, but they pause like that quite often enough. It's kinda fun lol

I didn't mention: By select the saber a second time, you can deactivate it.

I fixed the saber clipping issue.

I did this by placing a second mat on part of the saber (it is a + shape), and having it animate between the saber mat and a pure clear one at ridiculous speeds (50000fps).

Works great. Only downfall is that the sabers no longer have a color flicker, so they look somewhat static.

looks great! :D

Yay! I was hoping you'd find a fix for that.

:( I liked the flicker.

I added a core flicker. It gets the job done. :)

It's really starting to look Ep3ish now, isn't it?

Lightsabers now cause bubbles underwater.

I vote xzero as having the most open projects of any JK editor. haha :P

Looks nice. Not my cup of tea though. If I want good saber combat, I'll load up JA.
Lyrics are highly overrated.
2009-05-05, 9:22 PM #20
This isn't for saber combat. Simply graphics :)

And I disagree. JA is button mashing at best.
2009-05-06, 6:29 AM #21
Your opinion is wrong.
2009-05-06, 7:19 AM #22
Hey, if you're willing to call running up to your opponent smashing the fire button and movement buttons good saber combat, be my guest.

As far as I know, there aren't any games that incorporate good saber combat.

I'm not. That's why I play JA and not JK.
2009-05-06, 11:18 AM #24
lol, way to turn it around.

JK at least takes timing in order to kill someone, while JA just depends on who can click the fastest.

Both are hardly what I'd call good saber combat. But JK definitely passes JA on that level. It might not have the fancy moves that JA has, but it's combat is still better..

But that's besides the point of this thread, now isn't it? :P

That's more like it.

Btw, your saber color now properly reflects the one chosen in the multiplayer character menu.
2009-05-06, 7:08 PM #25
I'll give you one thing... you pay a lot of attention to detail. The underwater effect is sweet.

Hey, at least the saber works underwater in JK ;)
Lyrics are highly overrated.

There won't be a good saber battle game until someone figures out that Wii-like controls are key.

Hm.. there have been various mods for other games that added Wii support.

I wonder if we could do the same?
2009-05-09, 9:18 PM #28
People still play this game

Am I right in understanding that you solved the translucent 3do clipping problem by turning the blade on and off really fast?
2009-05-11, 8:30 PM #31
Close.

That solves *some* issues regarding the blade clipping against itself.

Keep guessing :P
2009-05-12, 1:06 AM #32
Wow. If you did fix it, please send your findings to 'The Force Within' mod team. :)
Lyrics are highly overrated.
2009-05-12, 6:04 AM #33
Did you solve the alpha-masked visible adjoin clipping problem (As in that screenshot from that crummy recreation of Goldeneye's Facility above, or that screenshot of Mobius Grith where you carefully positioned the lightsaber between the surfaces affected) ?
2009-05-12, 6:27 AM #34
A shame you removed the animations, I'd so want to use that :argh:
Star Wars: TODOA | DXN - Deus Ex: Nihilum
2009-05-12, 1:51 PM #35
Only in that very last screenshot.

It was solved by replacing the surfaces with 3do's, and have them use a flicker cog (to update their current sector as the players sector.)

Seems that when a thing enters the players sector, the problem is solved for that thing and the transparency issues no longer apply to it.

Of course, this is totally impractical since I had to open the level and change it myself, but seeing as how I might be including the modified levels with the mod, it won't really matter for regular JK stuff.

Still working on making something similar that will work with every map.

PS: That's not a crummy recreation of Goldeneye's Facility, it's a fairly accurate recreation of Perfect Dark's Felicity. :P

Download available:

[posted here to avoid problems]

GlowSaberX, Beta 5, May 12 2009.

Installation:

Place the GSX.gob file in your mods folder, ALONG with JKE.

Place the JK.DLL and JK.EXE files in your JK directory. - you may rename it to avoid overwriting your current JK.exe (SithLord's exe contains features unavailable in the GSX exe.)

Features:

Glowing lightsabers with motion trails.

New lightsaber sounds and special effects (saber clashes)

Fixed BGJ's river in multiplayer.

Toggle saber by selecting the saber a second time (push 10 to turn off, 10 to turn back on, etc.)

New JK Unofficial Patch (unsupported by ZeqMacaw)

Notes:

Lightsaber wall marks have been removed due to bugs.

Underwater bubbles do not appear, but sounds still play.

Lightsabers still clip through transparent surfaces, as the fix is level-based, and not mod-based.

Other bugs may be present.
