Mysteries of the Sith cutscenes

Play like the Roadrunner on crack. Even starting the game, it all flashes by too fast for the audio to play.

Is there a trick to getting them to play correctly?

Are they smacker/bink videos?

They're .san videos... and I dunno what that format is, Shadows of the Empire also uses it but the videos aren't compatible with each other.

They're ingame cutscenes, right? They're not really video, so there's not much you can do there.

Youtube.

They are separate video files, though.

I've read that one person "turned off full-duplex" on his soundcard and that fixed the problem.

Where can I find that setting?

I'm looking in Device Manager > Sound, Audio, Game Controllers...
bah, here's a screenie. Still can't find "full-duplex" within any of those though, so I think I'm looking in the wrong place.

Huh? They were? I don't remember that. I thought it was video using ingame content.

That's what I thought too, and I thought the goo files for the cutscenes were on the CD.

The mots cutscenes are videos acted out by the game.

They are as an easter egg, but they don't all work and most of the dialogue sound files are missing from the CD. The cutscenes were rendered within the engine, but recorded to .san video files, so really you're watching a video of the engine doing the cutscenes.

I was megadissapointed when I got MotS and found out the cutscenes weren't FMV.

Man, watching those videos makes me want to play MotS again... I remember I only ever got to play MotS Multiplayer once, at a lan game at my cousin's house. Those levels were so much bigger and more interesting than the JK levels.

MotS is worth getting if just for Piggot's single player mods.

You'd probably need to use whatever software came with your sound card. It's also possible, and in fact likely, that your sound card doesn't support that

MotS had so much potential, but JK modding was already steaming ahead at the time and nobody switched engines, except for the SP modders, but MP modders mostly stayed with JK.

Ok, the cutscenes seem to be working now. Unfortunately, I don't know which thing did it or if it was a combination of them.

Anyway, I'm running MotS in compatability mode for Win95. The game crashed when starting gameplay, even in Win98 mode. I also disabled visual themes and turned off advanced text services. I read that somewhere, so I did it.

I also did a "standard" install, not a complete which was supposed to make it read the video files off the CD.

When that didn't seem to work (maybe because when I uninstalled it the first time, it left something in the registry?), I copied all the .san files from the CD and put them in a folder called "video" in the resources folder. I also extracted the cutscenes.goo file from the zip file in the same folder on the cd to the folder on my harddrive with the .san files.

It works. The cutscenes are fugly, but they work.

We went with MotS for one reason: colored lighting baby! Woo! Woo! Disco!

MotS is awesome. KFY & Personalities were something that I enjoyed very much.
? :)

Ok, I guess I spoke too soon. The cutscenes seem to work 50% percent of the time. Really. Every other cutscene plays normal.

*shakes head*

Good thing I didn't try and start all this with Dark Forces.

Did MotS have 4-team capture the flag? I know it had 4-team team dm, but I can't remember if it had CTF like that as well...
2009-06-28, 1:01 PM #22
Also, I think we can all agree that MotS has one of the easiest end bosses in any FPS game, ever. :)
2009-06-28, 1:04 PM #23
Only if you knew what to do! Otherwise it was the hardest boss fight of any FPS game, ever! :ninja:

For some reason mots wasn't as fun as JK. I didn't finish it because I lost interest. I was on one of the last levels, and really wasn't interested in finishing it.
Nothing to see here, move along.

MotS didn't actually have CTF. There was a conversion of the JK CTF maps to MotS though.
? :)

But didnt it have capture the ysalamiri which was essentially the same thing?
2009-06-30, 12:26 AM #30
Yes. The twist being that the flag carrier couldn't use force powers.

Which is awesome.

Hell, we should all get together for a game! I actually never was able to play MotS online. :(

You missed out man.. MotS online was far superior to JK in any form.

I never played the full JK or MotS campaign. Modding was where the shiz was at.

Definitely, there were tons of great user created single player levels for MotS.

Everyone was so excited about colored lighting :)
2009-06-30, 10:05 PM #40
Coloured lighting really did make a big change, however like all things it got overused by modders: Blue room, red room, blue room with red flashing lights, etc.
