Another Star Wars trilogy possibly coming?

http://io9.com/5671581/george-lucas-reported-creating-new-star-wars-sequel-trilogy-thats-not-about-the-skywalkers

Quote:
George Lucas is plotting to create new Star Wars movies at the ultra top-secret Skywalker Ranch. This is deja vu of the mid '90s when Uncle George start[ed] tweaking the Holy Trilogy to gear up for the Special Editions. [...] These new film will have nothing to do with the live action television series currently in development. That show already has over 50 scripts ready to go and plenty of pre-production time and money has been spent on artwork and storyboards. Once that show goes into production, Lucasfilm hopes to be able to produce at least 100 episodes since that is the threshold for syndication in the United States [...Fans] can expect the new trilogy after the entire saga is released in 3D which is expected to be complete around 2015 or 2016.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Yeah, so there are rumors about a third trilogy. There will continue to be rumors about this until 1. it happens. or 2. lucas dies.

There will be more movies. It's pretty much certain. A series as popular as Star Wars does not die until no more money can be made off it.

You think the rumors will die when Lucas does? How naieve

If I recall, a spokesman stated recently that the rumors were false.

Even so, my interest in Star Wars has been greatly diminished since childhood. I just don't have the patience to pick through for the gems within the growing tumor that is this franchise. I enjoyed the fun Star Wars brought when I was young, but I just not looking forward to RELIVING the MAGIC every time some new Star Wars-related things comes out courtesy of Lucas.

inb4 "its Lucas's property, he can do what he wants." Many people were involved in the original trilogy which made the films great. So...meh.

Even back in the 70s there were rumours of episodes 7-9. I'm not surprised there are more now.

However, I think they are unlikely. His live action television show is at a standstill because he can't afford it - the episodes will be too expensive to produce.

This makes me think that 3 new movies unrelated to the Skywalkers is also unlikely.

Unless it was the KotoR story or something.

I just don't understand how he CAN'T afford it, the man could build a moon base if he wanted to.

I agree. You could always find funds from investors because everyone knows Star Wars is a cash-cow heaven.

Maybe Lucas is taking the time to join writing-improvement groups.

Lucas will never allow anyone else to have a say in his movies. That means no to investors.

I'm sure there will be more movies, I'm just wondering if they will be animated or live acted. I bet there are alot of people just waiting for George Lucas to die to start pitching Starwars reboot ideas.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind an animated sequel trilogy. As long as it's not clone wars style animation, and something more photo-real.

Reminds me of the 80's when Lucas said it would be a 'trilogy of trilogies'.

But I'm not believing it.

In recent years he has continually repeated that 'there is no story' beyond RotJ. The story was about the Skywalkers. I think he's also said he wouldn't allow any SW movies to be made after his death.

Ah, here it is:
SFX: Would you be happy for new Star Wars tales to be told after you're gone?

GL: I've left pretty explicit instructions for there not to be any more features. No Episodes VII - IX, because
there isn't any story. I mean, I never thought of anything! There have been novels about the events after Episode VI, which aren't at all what I would have done. The story is the tragedy of Darth Vader. That's the story. Once he dies, he doesn't come back to life, the Emperor doesn't get cloned, Luke doesn't get married.
Wow. A filmmaker deceiving the public about his future planned projects? That's unheard of!

Yeah but isnt it all in the hands of whoever he passes the rights to at that point? Very few people or business entities can resist piles of cash.

I didn't bother reading the thread because its contents are predictable. I'm guessing that the vast majority of us (especially those of us that are older) don't want to see our childhood fantasy butchered any further. There will probably even be some Lucas bashing (that's always good fun). However, we'll all go see it anyways. Each & every last mother****in' one of us. We're just sick like that.

One day, people will be referring to the original trilogy as TODOA sequels.

No more new Star Wars tales....does that mean a reboot or a remake in the future is still possible?

The live action TV series won't even feature Jedi in it, at all, ever. So much for watching that.

I see this as a good thing, Jedi have become retarded over the years. Need more Boba Fetts and Han Solos

You enjoyed battlefront 1? I didn't think it was worth the money at all, Battlefront 2 was the bare minimum of what 1 should have been.
2010-10-27, 4:30 PM #40
Battlefront 2 was too arcadey, and the Jedi **** was just awful.
