I like showcase threads. Damnit.

Don't really know what I'm going to do with the exterior.

It's a resounding shame all of the solutions to smaller editing problems were also lost with that ragequit.

ZED really should default to having autosave turned on. ... :argh:

You mean, it's a shame they were lost when CM deleted everything.

I don't know why I'm dignifying your unnecessary distinction, but in his defense I don't think he was aware that the showcase thread had initially been posted by PedHead, and probably would have backed the thread up before deleting had he known.

It's just a goddamn showcase thread. Fill it up with more work. It's not like it's hard to post things again.

JM: Looks good! What's your plot so far? (if you have one) - or basic story idea?

Uglier than the original.

It could use better textures.

Time to revive SOTW :)

(When more screenies are posted, obv. We can't have wireframes...)

Here's some new screenies;

Anthony Piggott once said that nobody has ever made a good level in which the player navigates through the sewers. I aim to continue that tradition.

I've always wanted to use this guy! He'll greet you every time you enter a secret area and belittle you, because you're rubbish.

Underwater crate puzzle that's all just a secret area. Putting far too much effort into these...

I watched Edward do a play-through over Skype, and it took him an hour (including all the secret areas) ... and that's just the first level. I do not envy the judges of this contest! :D

This thread needs more screenies.

Oh yeah.

I think the Lighter plugin is probably the most useful in outdoor areas, but since I only used the tool once I don't know if I can really tell anyone to use it! But you should try it out at least.

I use JkEdit so I have to do all the lighting by hand.. which is why I save it for last lol. Of course I can import the .jkl into ZED and run the lighter plugin.. but given that I've recreated these outdoor areas about 3 to 4 times due to errors.. I'm sure the lighter plugin will throw that all to hell (splitting all those surfaces and whatnot).

something that ive found is fairly useful for outdoor areas is setting the "ambient" light to like 2 or 3 and then just using actual lights for highlighted areas. really cuts down on the super contrast-ish typical JK lighting. dont know if that will fit your editing style, but thought i would throw it out there :)

Halucid, how are you! Been meaning to get in touch for a while now, send me a pm with your email address if you can, would love to hear how you've been and catch up. And I agree with Emon, you should give in to some nostalgia and contribute your skills to this impressive collection of talent! I'm not doing anything editing wise, but I'm helping Goit with voiceovers for the next installment of Magrucko. I can't escape Massassi either, only fade away... ;)

I think it's important people just keep things simple to get stuff done. Not enough time otherwise.

Haha, yes, you've discovered my secret identity! I'm currently a Site Moderator and pixel artist for Planet Minecraft. If you share my addiction to Minecraft (or if to don't), you should check out my skins! I've released over 60 so far.

As for the contest, I'd love to make a map... but I really don't think I'll be able to focus my time on a full SP level... Perhaps if it were a MP level contest.

Daft, I think I'll do better checking in here from now on. But if you (or anyone else here) would like to catch up, PM me at Planet Minecraft. I check my messages obsessively there. :D

You can always make a tiny SP level with just a few minutes of play.

I really want to keep working on this but the game is just so ugly.

Also, anyone know why my 16bit mats are scaled down in-game compared to how they appear in JED?
2012-06-16, 6:04 PM #28
I'm having the same problem with ugliness and motivation.

Are they larger than 256x256? If not, no idea.

Elmo is managing to create some seriously good looking stuff, so I'll say it's not the game that's the problem.

That's an odd restriction. Anyway, they appear to be the full resolution. Seems like it's something to do with the absurd way JK handles texture coordinates.

Seriously if you're still working on stuff, post it up! It's all looking really good/interesting, and a bit of feedback might give you more incentive to roll forward with it.
