there is a long list of things they'll try to blame before they ever consider blaming the one thing that should be... the nutjob who did this ****

If this crap was done to take advantage of the whole TDKR publicity, well, screw the gob****e.

If this crap was done because someone gave TDKR not-perfect reviews, Jesus EFF!ng Christ! I used to think that the ridiculousness of the fan fiasco related to the ending(s) of Neon Genesis Evangelion couldn't be topped, but hey, wouldn't surprise me any longer.

I wish that, before people decided to go out and kill a bunch of innocent people. That they would just turn the gun on themselves first. It's infuriating. So cowardly to go shoot unarmed innocent people..

I know a guy who tried (and failed, fortunately) to get tickets for this showing. Scary.

This event has kinda got to me. I suppose because the victims in this case are fans of a film I've been looking forward to for so long. Had I been born in Colorado, that could've quite easily been me there...

Looking through the tweets of one of the victims (http://twitter.com/JessicaRedfield) left me feeling quite harrowed. Seemed like a lovely young lady with plenty to live for. There was no reason for this to happen whatsoever...

I'm sorta disappointed they took him alive. I don't even want to hear how James Holmes's mind can justify these actions. Plus now this will drag on for years in the press and courts before anyone gets any closure.

It appears he left his home booby trapped, as well.
2012-07-20, 5:05 PM #13
I really wonder what his motivation was unless he's just one of those "some men just want to see the world burn" types. Also, jeez are some people sensitive. I posted a topic on GameFAQs asking why the girl on the left is smiling in the picture: http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/colorado-shooter-identified-as-james-holmes-24/2012/07/20/gJQAWkdrxW_story.html . I was moderated for "trolling." Additionally, a resurrected topic of mine that was posted yesterday that asked what movies featured people getting shot for talking/texting in a theater (happened in God Bless America) caused me to be marked as offensive. Maybe I should come back to being more active on this board though I'm not sure how hardcore of a film fan you guys are.

Yeah I was about to post this. They're saying the shooter said there's a bomb inside, and they can see the apartment is booby trapped. Jesus christ this guy is ****ed up.

Yeah, man, I really hate it when someone surrenders to the authorities and they actually grant them Habeas Corpus. Constitutional rights are totally gay.

If we're sure someone did something, we should totally just kill them right away. Right?

Grab a clue. I hate this argument of saving the taxpayers money. I mean, I hope this guy goes to jail for the rest of his life, but saying that they should just shoot him on sight is pretty god damned fascist. Remember, people, this country is headed toward SOCIALISM, not FASCISM. Get your ism's right if you're going to act like a moron on the internet.

Just to be clear about my original statement, my thoughts and feelings on this have nothing to do with taxpayer money.

Yeah, I know that. I don't mean to fly off the handle, but I get really pissed when people try to say how we should just kill people immediately for this sort of thing. Granted, it would be cathartic as hell, but ultimately wrong. We already have issues with executing innocent people in this country. We already have problems with convicting innocent people. The last thing we need is an express lane to the executioner by way of shooting people on sight even though they surrendered. Everyone is afforded those rights. If you want to have a say in the fate of a criminal, make sure you're registered to vote. You'll get jury duty eventually, but of course you'll find a way out of it, because in reality, you're not that interested. It's not worth it if you actually have to go through the process of the actual justice system in order to have an impact on the fate of a criminal. People love to blast off at the mouth about this sort of thing, but they rarely stop to think of how they would feel if this sort of approach was taken toward them.

It wouldn't be that nice if the next time you got pulled over for speeding, you just lost your license immediately, and had no say in the matter at all, now would it?

This isn't really directed at anyone in this thread... It's just a general reaction to the sort of crap I've been reading from people all over the internet in regard to the subject.

Antony I think they were just complaining that the guy didnt have the decency to suicide after it was all over, like the Columbine kids did. Or at least charge the cops with gun in hand, going out in a blaze of glory. I dont think they were calling for a change in the laws.

I know. I'm just kind of going off on a rant about the way a lot of people are reacting to this. The people who think this is a good reason why we should have LESS strict gun laws, in particular, are driving me insane.

"the decency to suicide" what the **** why does that make this better. and I don't mean that in some kind of "another death only makes it worse" way, just... how does that improve the situation, as opposed to incarcerating or killing him under due process or whatever else? "blaze of glory" why would you want him to go out in a "blaze of glory"

Well I think it would have been better, in the exact way I mentioned in my initial post. My comment wasn't in regard to changing gun laws or taxpayer money, or satisfying revenge. It would have been far simpler for the victims and their families to move on and find closure if it had wrapped up quickly with 'Lone gun man shot and killed. James Holmes was a deeply disturbed individual, blah blah blah." But now the court case will drag on for years, we will probably get to see interview clips where James Holmes describes the rationality behind his actions ect. Constant and public reminders of this day's events for a long time to come. I wasn't suggesting the police take matters into their own hands 'Punisher' style. I was simply hoping for an outcome that would have minimized the victims pain.

Not sure if that's really the best idea :/

I think it's a great idea.. though it might be better if it's just Christian Bale as himself, rather than Christian Bale as Batman.

More like insecure, opposite-of-private, and run by monkeys. This isn't even an opinion, it's fact. Having anything even remotely personal on Facebook is a stupid idea, which makes having Facebook at all a stupid idea (which is why I literally use it only for chat, and only because I have to).

Yeah, because that really matters.

Also, in response to the actual idea:

No, that's a terrible idea. Those people lost their lives not because of the Batman movie, but because of a violent killer. They don't want to be remembered as "the people who died at the Batman premiere".
2012-07-21, 6:15 PM #36
One of my friends went to high school with the killer... he came over to his house, and they had class together. He had no idea, which is usually the case with most psychopaths. :(

*shrug* I'm not a huge fan of facebook either, but do you really feel like you have to go on a self-righteous crusade against it?

Umm, you're not making a heck of a lot of sense.. First, who are you to presume to know what the people who died want to be remembered as? Second, this isn't for the people who died, it's for the people still alive. The fact that they were at the premiere indicates they are big fans of Batman, and I can't imagine them being angry about an opportunity to meet Christian Bale. Besides which, it's not like they couldn't say no to the offer. I'm sure if this were arranged, the victims would have the opportunity to "opt out" so to speak. Who are you to decide for them? The whole point of the picture is for the question to be brought up. There will be plenty enough hurdles for this idea to go through without needing some random guy on the internet deciding he's the one that knows best for Christian Bale and for those victims.

(That said, the reason I suggested just Christian Bale without the Batman costume is simply because the Batman costume is kind of dark and sinister, and some of the victims are likely suffering from PTSD. So Batman showing up might not be the best thing for them... But again, there's nothing to say they couldn't be given the option.)
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Christian Bale will just shout at them for ruining his movie by getting shot.

Even if he did show up in character, half of them would just ***** that they don't like his Batman voice anyway.
