So someone made a game based on the "slender man". It is actually kind of decent, even a little scary if you play it in the dark. :tinfoil:

has anyone else tried it?

It's not a little scary... it's way scary! It gets pretty predictable though, and I wish the Slender model was a little creepier.

Yeah that was my one main gripe, was the slender man model... that and several horribly misaligned textures.

I've had a quick look at the Youtube videos of people playing, and it seems interesting and atmospheric - but can anyone brief me on what the actual gameplay mechanics are? I'm not certain as to how you "win" - I understand that it's based on getting the collectibles and avoiding the Slender Man, but how do you actually avoid the Slender Man? Is it skill-based (i.e. turning away from him very quickly) or purely an application of luck and speed?

The gameplay videos I've scene remind me of a more boring Alan Wake.

getting away from the slender man is pretty much based on luck/speed. its fun to play through once or twice.

I should dress up as a Slenderman for Halloween. I just need to buy something to mask my head like that.

It's a horror/folkstory thing that started on Something Awful and has since gained a life of its own. There's some pretty strong indications the Silence from Doctor Who were based on him, amongst other things.

-You should check out some of the video stories, like Marble Hornets or EverymanHYBRID or This is the Monkey House.

I thought The Silence seemed a lot like The Gentlemen from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which predate Slenderman by about a decade.

I've never fully understood the popularity of Slenderman. It isn't particularly scary as far as scarypasta goes. It probably has more to do with being iconic than anything else.
