Bond... James Bond.

The latest Bond is a mighty great movie. Highly recommended for all action movie fans. It doesn't take itself too seriously, has an AWESOME pre-credits intro, a cool(-ish) villain, and... Well.. Damn, if you've liked the first Daniel Craig Bond movie (let's pretend the 2nd never happened), you're sure to like this one too.

So yeah. I found it extremely enjoyable. Much more so than the Dark Knight, might I add, but I guess that's a matter of taste.

Nice to hear. I haven't seen Quantum of Solace but lately I've seen quite many (British, for some reason) people say that it wasn't actually that bad. Oh well, maybe I'll check them both out in 2019 or something.

I always thought On Her Majesty's Secret Service, GoldenEye and especially Casino Royale were closer to """real""" films than the others (i.e. more refined, really), with CR actually being one of my definite favourite films (even if the ending drags out quite a bit, but eh, so did the book, they say). Funky stuff.

I think Casino Royale is still the better overall movie, but Skyfall has some really good sequences, great performances (especially Bardem), and is shot really well. The only problem I have is I was reminded by The Dark Knight quite a bit with all the stuff that was worked out by Silva, almost too convenient.

It was nowhere near awful, it just wasn't anywhere near as good as Casino Royale.
nope.

I saw Skyfall today. I thought it freshened up the story a bit by introducing some new characters. Over all I think it ranks among one of my favorites, I liked that Bond was given some vulnerability, and that the villain was on par with a Bond in his prime.

Most of my nit-picks are centered around predictability and some story element choices. With a series with as many installments as the Bond franchise I suppose it's unavoidable, though some of the set-ups were pretty blatant in saying "Look at this. It's going to be a key element in the next fight scene."

The first of these was the gun with a coded grip that only allows Bond to fire it. I instantly knew it was for the reason that someone would take it from him and be unable to fire it, giving Bond enough time to evade death. Aside from obnoxious lights on the gun it vanishes for the rest of the movie after it's convenient use.

This brings me to the pit of Komodo Dragons. When I saw that they were CG I was worried because I knew the film was trying to suspend out disbelief about them in the establishing shot. Though by the time Bond and a henchman predictably fall into the pit the CG lizards still look as fake as before and conveniently attack the henchman as he trying to shoot Bond. The lizard dragging the guy into the darkness where it was presumably going to devour him just outside of the public eye seemed a bit cheesy and far-fetched.

Still, I highly recommend it.

I've two pretty big ones over all, but not the ones you mention.

First of all, when the pretty lady of African descent takes the authorized shot and hits Bond, why the hell doesn't she shoot the other guy right afterwards? I mean, come on. The second one is that I had a very hard time believing that an ancient, isolated castle is the best hideout in the entire UK for the head of MI6. And a smaller one about the bit where the main bad guy takes out his teeth prosthesis, didn't think that was really necessary, felt like a pointless homage to that Connery's Bond's villain's adventures. Liked everything else, though. The Komodo dragons made me think of the Jabba the Hut palace SW scene.

I guess I was the only one who was disappointed with this movie. The first half felt like a Bond movie, but the second half didn't. I was let down. It did get me pumped up for the next one though, which I suspect was it's true purpose after QoS.

I thought the whole final confrontation was drawn out for way too long. It was just kinda the same static situation the whole time, and it just wound up where we knew it would, with a 1 on 1 on 1 final, relatively quiet showdown. Might as well have skipped all the explosions.
