I'd like to get my roommate and his brother an expensive bottle of scotch whiskey for Christmas (somewhere around the $50-$100 range). Thing is, I don't know the first thing about what are the good brands, so to speak, so...

What are the good brands of scotch for around that price range?

I'd also be open to hearing other liquors I could get around that price range.

Macallan 15 (750ml) ought to fit in that range nicely.

Macallan > Glenmorangie. I'd drink both, though.

I would just have seconded this anyway, it's a great choice. I'm a much more useful resource on beer than on whisky or wine.
