I own www.EpisodeEight.com. Who wants in?

So about 14 minutes after The Announcement, I went looking and saw that www.EpisodeEight.com was available. I bought it.

I want to build something with it. I'm not exactly sure what just yet, but I have a few ideas. The main one I'm working on right now is a 3rd Trilogy rumors site.

I'm also looking for one or two people who want to work with me on it. Either on the technical side or the content side (or both).

I figured the first place I'd come looking for people who are interested is you guys. :)

So, anyone interested?

I dunno...seems like you'd get sued in oblivion somehow if Lucasarts/Disney wanted the domain...

That is pretty awesome! If I was going to be around longer I definitely would!

I'd take that case on contingency. "Episode Eight" is too generic to claim trademark infringement, and you can't copyright short phrases. If Disney really wants the domain, dud will just end up selling it at a substantial profit.

If you do put anything remotely star wars related on the domain, disney/lucasarts will legally be able to take the domain off you because you are using their brand (Star Wars) and clearly Episode Eight is related to that. If you put up a site that was nothing to do with star wars you'd be fine and *may* be able to sell the domain to them for profit.

It should be a site that reviews episode 8 of any and all tv series =p

I'm pretty sure that buying domains with the intent of selling them to major corporations for a lot of money is now illegal (got to love their influence over law). Although you should probably double check that before proceeding with this.

I imagine squatting is, but if he actually puts forth an ounce of effort he can argue he just liked the domain name, and then get rich.

Is Episode 9 and Episode 10 available?

Might as well make a trilogy.

I kind of like the fake rumor site idea. I remember that supershadow guy who put out all of the fake rumors about Episode 3. It was hilarious.

How could happydud be sued? If they want it, they need to buy it from him. It's that simple. He just needs to be careful not to have anything there that would provoke them; for example, rumors about the movies or any vaguely copyrighted material.

It might be the smartest thing just to sit on the domain and hope for a lucrative offer from Disney.

well, of course they could sue him. You CAN sue for literally almost anything, especially if you have gobs of money to pay for layers to file things for you(like disney.) If they would WIN a lawsuit is entirely different. And that is even dependent on if the suit will actually make it to court.

He'd be in a stronger position if there was *something* on the domain that was unique content. Stronger still if it made use of the phrase episode eight. e.g. as a web comic, a band name, a blog.

1. What would they sue him for?
2. No, you cannot sue for literally almost anything. That is a common misconception about the American legal system.
