Ok guys, I want to register a domain name and I remember there was a domain name registration/hosting company that has been brought up here a couple times but I can't remember what is was?? Any suggestions?

I use Namecheap for domain registration and for hosting I use A Small Orange. Just don't use GoDaddy.

My personal favorite is Hover.com

The place has easily the best customer support out there, and their website is a breath of fresh air compared to horrible places like Godaddy. It isn't the cheapest registrar, but I'd consider that their only downside (and there are coupons, I can even give you a referral code :P).

That said, as long as you avoid GoDaddy and Network Solutions, you should be fine. Those two are basically the worst companies on the internet.

Edit: Shameless plug, I do offer hosting by the way.

$5/month
40GB bandwidth
1GB disk space
Unlimited email addresses/subdomains/databases

You don't have to get hosting from the same place you get your domain name (and oftentimes you should avoid it, as some hosts have rules against transferring domains if you get a package deal).

Ok cool! Hover.com was the one I was trying to remember! Yeah, only need to register a domain, hosting was the wrong word! Lol.

I am skeptical that this miscommunication caused you to laugh audibly.

I remember looking into this last year, and I settled on one.com

It was £10.50 for a .com and (I think) a gig hosting. The downside was you could only upload one file at a time, but I didn't care as it was a small portfolio website. I also found that you could get £10.00 cashback when registering for one.com so I ended up getting a .com website for 50p! (that's a dollar I believe).
