Frostbite 4 engine... Graphics look almost photo-realistic. Was very impressed.

I recommend to watch in HD.

It seems like anything can happen in EA's Call of Madden - Battlefield of Modern NHL Warfare Duty 2014

Where's the multiplayer footage where we get to see things like "hold this point for 17 minutes to capture, or capture immediately for 200 EATokens"?

The graphics look great, but it takes something more than 'standard modern military shooter' to get a rise out of me.

Throw in a Zombie mode or something. :)

Whatever EA's crimes against humanity, BF3 is still the best multiplayer game that I've ever played (54 hours and counting).

That's an actually good idea. Certain gamers "in the moment" wouldn't think twice for dishing out money to win a virtual game. Press "x" to win right now!

It works for the sex industry, why not for manchildren with an e-penis in a virtual e-penis polishing land?

Heh, reminds me of how EA execs were all "LOL THE GAME CAN'T BE EDITED IT'S TOO HARD FOR YOU" about Battlefield 3, while the game seemed to retain all the bugs from Battlefield 2 that the modding community had fixed. Whatevs.

When did the battlefield series lose its sense of scale and openness? Admittedly I haven't played it since Battlefield 2 (Although I clocked up so many hundred hours on Battlefield 1942). The best thing about those games was the large open maps and the sense that you were in a proper war with lots going on. You could play the same levels with different roles and there was huge replay value. Correct me if I'm wrong but this seems like another FPS game with scripted storylines and mission objectives?

Sounds like they're staying the course (of course, EA isn't the only company that can be blamed for this...).

Would have expected them to showcase the MP aspects instead, but I guess "hey look at these graphics- REPENT YOUR SINS FOR EA" might work too.

I wish they would make a Battlefield game set in WW2 again on a modern engine. I liked it better when the vehicle combat wasn't based on whether or not you can lock-on to a target or counter with flares when you get locked on to. You had to actually hit your target with skill, not just mere timing.

When I hear people say that the graphics in this 'aren't good enough', I pop a blood vessel. I can't even believe how spoiled people are these days thanks to modern graphics engines, it's like they expect, nay, demand photorealism and virtual reality. :argh:
DO NOT WANT.

Today I learned that "54 hours" constitutes earning "BEST MULTIPLAYER GAME" from someone. :P

Let me know when you pass up 2500 hours, like I have in TF2. Then I'd believe you :P

It's the artwork, not the engine.
2013-03-27, 12:46 PM #21
Not saying the engine is bad, it's just really judicious use of gpu physics and some ~5 year old global illumination work from siggraph. The thing that makes it pop is the artwork.

Incredibly linear, catastrophically scripted shooter?

I don't want a game that plays like a movie, I want a game that plays like a really good game. I'm not going to spend 60$ on a mediocre movie that is a pain in the ass to watch. It's like if I had to press a remote button every few seconds to keep Live Free or Die Hard playing.

Yeh, well I only got it last month. :) And I don't really like TF2, whereas BF3 is definitely the best multilayer game I've played so far. A matter of taste, I suppose.

but you're missing out on 64-player wake island!!!

Also I just fired up the first Unreal Tournament the other day: still great.

I'm not sure if I prefer 64 player Wake on BF2 or 1942. They're completely different, but similarly ****ing chaotic and awesome.

I played Tribes 2 demo I think, never got too involved. I have UT3, pretty graphics, intense gameplay, but don't think I played more than 10 hours of multi altogether. Played a bit of TF2 even before it became free, never took a liking to it. Haven't played Team Fortress Classic. Don't think any of those games come near to the sheer battle randomness of BF3, and that's not to mention that at least 4 people I know IRL own the game as well.

Gamewise? Dunno. Musically? Oh my God, yes. While it's not really my favourite musical composition ever made, Foregone Destruction is something that I think just plainly explains the Universe. Forealzbilly.

Yeah, I never liked Battlefield, but Battlefield 3 is pretty bad as far as multiplayer goes. Not quite as bad as Call of Duty, but still pretty bad. Like most generic FPSes, camping is such an effective tactic that it becomes incredibly boring to effectively do anything, especially without having a coordinated team to break the camping up. Much of the reason I prefer TF2 is because its combat is far more varied, faster paced, and strategic.

Bonk with the baseball? Cause that's incredibly annoying, and deadly for medics if you combine it with the cleaver. Basically a one-two combo.
