Sorry, don't know how to play this video :(

I know it's just a trailer, but IMO it looks pretty sweet. I'm especially liking Gary Oldman as the project scientist.

Why set it in future Detroit when present Detroit turned out just as the original guessed?
The news is basically the same too.

lol what? The original followed early 80s crime and population projections, both of which are laffo. Present Detroit is smaller than Edmonton.

It was just a Detroit sucks joke man.

Wooshy visor and magically expanding SMG? Pass.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Yeah I think it looks cool. I have to say, I really enjoy the whole reboot thing in general.

my prediction... this one will give us some good cyborg badassery but miss the mark and fall extremely short of the original

Sigh...

Can we maybe direct some of the utterly remarkable hate that the casting of Ben Affleck has received toward something actually bad? Like, you know, this.

Yeah, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton look good in this, but the entire style of it reminds me a lot of iRobot, which is not really a good thing.

I pretty much second what GBK and Jim have said here.

Just curious, whose Jim? I'm not on a first name basis with most Massassian's with the exception of those whose username is actually their first name.

I liked iRobot.

I will not like this.

I enjoyed the original films & am looking forward to this. I'm quite interested in seeing how Joel Kinnaman does--he's phenomenal in 'The Killing'.
? :)

nope.

Oh, and by the way. This movie is being made with a PG-13 rating in mind.

Drew Mcweeny, who is one of the internet's more dependable film beat writers, did something of a script review of the movie.

http://collider.com/robocop-remake-script-review/

Yeah, so PG-13, he doesn't kill people unless he really has to, and it manages to routinely make fun of the original. Yeah, by all means go watch this bull****, but make sure you stay home when something like Pacific Rim comes out. We wouldn't want any more good-spirited fun-as-hell movies (not to mention original ones).

Then again, based on the international box office take, we'll probably get a terrible remake of Pacific Rim in about 5 years.

PG-13? What is Robocop if it doesn't have it's ridiculous over-the-top violence and gore?

His one human hand looks so stupid. You already know it's going to be used as some ponderous metaphor for his last piece of humanity making him stronger even though it seems like a tremendous weakness.
2013-09-08, 4:28 PM #23
Should have made it his left hand so he could keep wearing his wedding ring. Really solidify the idea. But, you know, we can't all be talented Hollywood scriptwriters.

(After all, Save The Cat! is almost 200 pages. Who has time for that?)
2013-09-08, 4:43 PM #24
A scene where he picks up and puts on his wedding ring would have been really neat ye.
2013-09-08, 4:47 PM #25
I somehow don't see this movie touching on those mushy bits of the blurred lines of humanity and an electronic bipedal quarter-brained hell.

My first thought as well, even falling down on that side of his body would crush that arm.

When I see it all I can think about is Leto II. So proud of his little, pathetic human limbs, can't even roll over without shattering them.

But... but... it's a clever* jab on how Robocop 3 wasn't very good because of its PG-13 rating!

The new Dredd movie is an example of how to do something like this well.
