Han, easily. Cap'n Reynolds always gave people a chance first. Han however got into more trouble and didn't quite care about life as much.

Oh is that who it's supposed to be?
In that case, you make a good argument

Not enough information! What got these two pointing pistols at each other in the first place?

I voted for Mal, though I have no idea who that is. He looks pretty Ugandan Homophobic though.

they're more or less the same character so

ironically the light-hearted Whedon-written grey market small businessman lost more friends to war and space horrors than the grumpy Lucas-written small town terrorist fighting a war of attrition against a popular galaxy-spanning government.

wait, did I say ironically? because I meant the opposite of that.

My wife made me watch the first episode of Agents of Shield a few nights ago. She let me spend about 10 minutes laughing at the hammy writing and Mary Sue main character before she told me who wrote it.

It's as if Star Wars is a mostly black-and-white fantasy epic structured around myth tropes while Firefly is a partial-deconstructionist sci-fi/western that came after.

Also, Han was a merc-turned-rebel while Mal was a rebel-turned-merc. If we're comparing to when they're only mercs, they went through slightly more similar experiences (they both went through torture anyway, though obviously Firefly was more explicit/'real').

I wouldn't describe Han/SW as "grumpy" or Mal/FF as "light-hearted" either, though imagining Han as grumpy cat is mildly amusing.

neither... they would probably head to the nearest bar and quickly start an epic bromance

plus look at the drawing... they both have smirks... the artist knows they are just goofing off and they put those pistols away and gave each other a bro hug
eat right, exercise, die anyway

Exactly. Looks more like gayromance than a deadly standoff judging by their facial expressions.
